How McCain's daughter found out her dad was in Syria

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain slipped into civil war-torn Syria Monday to meet with rebels battling Bashar al Assad's regime.

So how did his daughter Meghan learn about her father's visit?

On Twitter, of course.

Meanwhile, one of McCain's top allies on Capitol Hill, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, poked some fun at his friend.

Mouaz Moustafa, with the Washington-based Syrian Emergency Task Force that helped plan McCain's trip, said the Arizona Republican entered Syria through Turkey, and remained in the country for several hours.

While in Syria, McCain met with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He spent about an hour meeting with Free Syrian Amry commanders from various parts of the country including Aleppo, Homs, and Idlib.

McCain is the leading voice in Congress for a greater U.S. role in ending Syria's civil war, which has been waged for more than two years. He has suggested establishing "safe zones" for Syria's rebels and taking out the regime's air assets, along with providing lethal weapons to Syria's opposition.

    @Anthony in California

I don't identify with either party, but as someone who lives in California, I had to say I laughed when you started to knock Republicans.

The Democrats in CA with their supermajority are the biggest gang of crony dirtbags that comes to memory. Even Jerry Brown hates them and he's as blue as any other Democrat.

I hope he was over there at the approval of the POTUS and not just trying to get us into a new war !

Where has anyone read that McCain wants to go to war... or do you people even understand what war is?

Glad she loves her father. As the cliche goes, when your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. The McCain military family is too quick to a military solution. The anti-American faction among the rebels (and current government) is far stronger than potential allies. I support Obama's caution.

At the least he is getting his own perspective on how things are turning out there, to some degree.

Megan is proud of her father. As far as Megan joining the military I think McCain has served enough time in Vietnam that his daughter doesn't have too.

I have much respect for John McCain as a service member. I'm a little concerned about how the Syrian government might react to this news. I don't want the USA in another war. Time to let some other country stick their nose in it if they wish to do so. We cannot be the world's superhero. We need to bring our troops home and let the rest of the world figure things out on their own.

Meghan, your 15 minutes were up about 5 years ago. No one cares what you think. And as far as your Dad goes, he should have the courage to change his party to democrat instead of pushing their agenda as a RINO.

We need to keep all those stupid republicans out of those countries. Especially ones like McCain and the other warmongers. Maybe he will decided to stay or maybe they will keep him – I hope.

Remove the "bad" and you have the full description of John McCain.

The fact that he's cheerleading for another war in the middle east on Memorial Day is all that needs to be said about McCain and his current character, motives, and associations.

McCain is something plenty of you idiots are not and that is a war veteran who spent years as a POW. Obama is not near the man McCain is and never will be. Grow up and realize that you are leaching off the system like most Democrats.
