How McCain's daughter found out her dad was in Syria

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain slipped into civil war-torn Syria Monday to meet with rebels battling Bashar al Assad's regime.

So how did his daughter Meghan learn about her father's visit?

On Twitter, of course.

Meanwhile, one of McCain's top allies on Capitol Hill, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, poked some fun at his friend.

Mouaz Moustafa, with the Washington-based Syrian Emergency Task Force that helped plan McCain's trip, said the Arizona Republican entered Syria through Turkey, and remained in the country for several hours.

While in Syria, McCain met with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He spent about an hour meeting with Free Syrian Amry commanders from various parts of the country including Aleppo, Homs, and Idlib.

McCain is the leading voice in Congress for a greater U.S. role in ending Syria's civil war, which has been waged for more than two years. He has suggested establishing "safe zones" for Syria's rebels and taking out the regime's air assets, along with providing lethal weapons to Syria's opposition.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Sen. McCain's service during Vietnam. I have no respect for him as a politician.

Not only is he a "Badass" just like she says, he is also a 'crazy old coot', a maverick, someone out of touch with reality, a warmonger, a republican, and a space octopus robot!

She can think that but we know better. Hopefully in 50 years when she's his age, she's smarter than he is today...a lot smarter

Yes Meghan, John War Monger McCann is a badass when it comes to any continuous war in the middle east and in your mind and the minds of Mss Lindsey Graham and Sarah Caribou Barbie Palin, that's about it, and there are those who wonder why Americans rejected him as President prime example, enough said.

"I'd like to know just how much taxpayer money did it take for that security assisted flight to Syria, not cheap by any means." I'm no McGrampaw fan but what he did was reasonable and normal; we're just wondering what the senile old magoo thought he was doing there.

Mccain is knowlingly backing al queda-backed rebels bent on ousting Assad in order to have a sunni theocracy established in Syria. What he is doing is flat out dangerous and should be viewed as treasonous. America should be helping Assad but they're not.

It only takes one little silly mistake to start a war. It takes hell on Earth to stop one.

    @Linda;
For love of God, how could anyone NOT KNOW of his POW experience. He never misses an opportunity to bring it up. For the record, McCain wasn't offered anything any deal that any other captured pilot was offered for their freedom. He just makes himself out to be more noble than the rest.
Let's be honest. It's time for McCain to stay in AZ while he cashes his THREE SEPARATE government pension checks. Welfare Queen?

" He has more brains and experience in his little finger than you could have if there were three of you! What makes you an expert on his service? Were you there? Sorry, but his stay in the Hanoi Hilton" rant rave squee fangirl ecstasy.

Hero-worship makes Hitlers. Sorry, but I don't automatically equate "someone shot down his plane and locked him up" with "he is good at international politics" or "always knows what to do in a war." He may have done well when he was a kid in the 70s, but so did KC and the Sunshine Band. When I look at him now, I see a narrow escape America had. Thank you all for not voting for him.

He has no respect for the military veterans here by voting "NO" on a bipartisan bill to help veterans. He is irrelevant trying to be relevant. Maybe he can stop in Iraq and search for WMD that were supposedly there.

Is he doing this on behalf of the president or state dept.? Or did congress open their own wing for foreign affairs? Before taking on other responsibilities they might be better off looking at unemployment, runaway healthcare costs and corporate welfare, the real threats to this country.

As I said before, if the White House and congress really want to resort to military action in Syria, the best way to do so is to arm the military of the 22 menber Arab League. This way, we won't be accused of being in Muslim land, we won't have to put Americans in harms way and we'd be putting the responsibility where it belongs, in the hands of the Arab people.
