How McCain's daughter found out her dad was in Syria

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain slipped into civil war-torn Syria Monday to meet with rebels battling Bashar al Assad's regime.

So how did his daughter Meghan learn about her father's visit?

On Twitter, of course.

Meanwhile, one of McCain's top allies on Capitol Hill, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, poked some fun at his friend.

Mouaz Moustafa, with the Washington-based Syrian Emergency Task Force that helped plan McCain's trip, said the Arizona Republican entered Syria through Turkey, and remained in the country for several hours.

While in Syria, McCain met with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He spent about an hour meeting with Free Syrian Amry commanders from various parts of the country including Aleppo, Homs, and Idlib.

McCain is the leading voice in Congress for a greater U.S. role in ending Syria's civil war, which has been waged for more than two years. He has suggested establishing "safe zones" for Syria's rebels and taking out the regime's air assets, along with providing lethal weapons to Syria's opposition.

I just love all of these folks who see people in a distant country and immediately assume that it's an armed uprising of people fighting for freedom, justice, and the American way. They don't understand the culture in the slightest.

These are the same folks who denied that Iraq slipped into a civil war between primarily three religious sects, along with a couple of opposing terrorist and radical groups thrown in for good measure trying to take over the country during the chaos..

Syria isn't very different from Iraq in that regard, except that Syria has more sophisticated weaponry, thanks to their allies, the Russians. Saddam got his core weaponry from the US during the 1980s and '90s, while Syria got theirs from the Russians.

McCain wants you to think that the US forces will be met with cheering and open arms. Actually, it would probably be more like jeering and open arms fire. All of the forces "fighting" the Assad government are united, do not have the same goals, and some of them really do not need any help.

Recall how McCain pulled this exact same stunt in Benghazi, Libya. Look how eventually that turned out. I wonder if any of the factions that McCain had spoken to were involved in the attack on the US compound.

McCain is no badass and President Obama isn't scared of ish. It's called diplomacy. Actually President Obama is carrying the biggest set around in Politics. He has dealt with traitors from his first day in office doing everything they can to make him fail. Yet he just keeps it moving.

Anybody that can deal with the obstruction, racism and down right hatred from the RWNJ's has ballz of steel.

I seem to remember you screaming about how we should not get involved in Syria some months ago. Did those 70,000 dead start emaning something to you when you realized it helped stoke your paranoia?

Remember how so many of the righties on here screamed bloodly murder about how we should NOT get involved in Syria? Interesting how they suddenly see the Syrians as a uniform bloc of opposition to Assad when 6 months ago they were screaming about how we should not get involved for fear of arming Islamists. Opportunistic hypocrites.

You Americans are sheep. McCain and obama are supporting Al-Qaeda in Syria. The Syria rebels are allied with extremist. What we have are a Neo-Con and a Neo-Lib both working together to help banks, oil companies and military contractors.

He does have some lucid moments but he does not always show common sense. To propose that the U.S. get involved in another muslim country in the naive fantasy of instilling democracy shows that he is doomed to repeat the same mistake over and over again.

John McCain is a true American hero. He certainly doesn't serve our country because he needs the money or fame.... he feels the need to continue serving since he has since being a prisoner of war. He doesn't love war..... but realizes that the best way to avoid war is to have a strong military presence and force that people are afraid of. If the world perceives the U.S. military as being weak and no threat ( as the current administration is heading toward from all angles), just wait and see how we are taken over in a most unpeaceful way.
