Bachmann: 2016 is not off the table

(CNN) – Rep. Michele Bachmann, who announced last week she won't seek re-election next year, says she may run for elected office again one day and is not ruling out another presidential bid.

But the Minnesota Republican said her future career in politics is not her top priority at the moment.

"I'm not retiring, I'm not going silent, I'm not quitting my public involvement," she said late Thursday night on Fox News' "Hannity." "In fact I may run for another public office. That could happen. But for right now I'm going to find a different perch in order to be able to weigh in on these matters."

While she said she didn't have a specific plan as of now, she is "wide open and looking."

Discussing her reason for leaving Congress, the fourth term representative said she will have served about the same amount of time as a president would serve–eight years. "And I do think that this is a body that needs to have continual turnover."

Bachmann ticked off a list of what she considers her accomplishments on Capitol Hill and in the tea party movement. Asked about a potential 2016 bid for the White House, Bachmann said "I'm not taking anything off of the table."

"But certainly that's not my number one item that I'm looking at right now," the 2012 GOP presidential candidate said. "I'm in the game for the long haul."

She was not asked about a recent congressional ethics inquiry into the improper transfer of campaign funds. However, Bachmann said last week that was not part of her decision to leave.

- CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

The only newsworthy interest in this article is that CNN has the desire to lower itself to the bottom of the barrel by covering Fox News interviews.

There are those that bring joy with their presence and there are those who bring joy with their absence. Michelle, in my opinion you fit the latter. So I guess the plan now is to get paid to speak or whatever it is people in politics without a job do to get paid. Like write a book, get a TV gig, or better yet become a lobbyist. Good luck in whatever you do but do yourself a favor, stay away from any elected office.

    Ok, let's keep this dignified:

    "BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAA!!!!!!"

Yep, she got annihilated in the last election cycle, has never enacted meaningful policy of any kind, has people investigating her use of campaign funds, seems to think Jesus is at the other end of a CB radio conversation and can blankly stare a hole through a nearby mountain...

    She's got MY vote!!!

The fact that CNN, Fox News, and any other news media continue to give attention to people like Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin is the real problem. We need leaders who can think and govern, not posers who are nothing more than self-promotion machines. Both of these quitters are simply promoting themselves at the expense of our nation, and it is inappropriate for our major news media to make them appear legitimate.

Wait, didn't she accept Swiss citizenship? So she may run for President of the United States, while simultaneously holding dual citizenship in a socialist European country...THAT would be great to see.

"Bachmann ticked off a list of what she considers her accomplishments on Capitol Hill and in the tea party movement". That has to be a short list.

Best thing for the democrats is that she try to run again. Her hot air and insane quotes drown out the republican party's credibility.

What country? Switzerland or the US? Didn't she finally get dual citizenship. And we all thought we would not have to put up with her craziness anymore. The bigger question why are we even giving her airtime...why are we discussing her. She is a nobody.

I hear a stat that about 75% of what she publicly said the last two years was completely false or a giant stretch of the truth. What can we take from this? She will be back to terrorize the educated again!

She is simply saying this - that she might run again - so she can command higher speaking fees and employ other strategies to separate suckers from their money. . It's become a tired trick of right-wing politicians, perfected by one Sarah Palin.

She should run again... I can't think of a bigger gift to the democrats than for her to have another go at it. It's almost as good of a gift as the GOP picking Romney for their presidential candidate.

You're leaving because you know you won't win the next election. AND, Sarah showed you that you can make more money out of office.
