Bachmann: 2016 is not off the table

(CNN) – Rep. Michele Bachmann, who announced last week she won't seek re-election next year, says she may run for elected office again one day and is not ruling out another presidential bid.

But the Minnesota Republican said her future career in politics is not her top priority at the moment.

"I'm not retiring, I'm not going silent, I'm not quitting my public involvement," she said late Thursday night on Fox News' "Hannity." "In fact I may run for another public office. That could happen. But for right now I'm going to find a different perch in order to be able to weigh in on these matters."

While she said she didn't have a specific plan as of now, she is "wide open and looking."

Discussing her reason for leaving Congress, the fourth term representative said she will have served about the same amount of time as a president would serve–eight years. "And I do think that this is a body that needs to have continual turnover."

Bachmann ticked off a list of what she considers her accomplishments on Capitol Hill and in the tea party movement. Asked about a potential 2016 bid for the White House, Bachmann said "I'm not taking anything off of the table."

"But certainly that's not my number one item that I'm looking at right now," the 2012 GOP presidential candidate said. "I'm in the game for the long haul."

She was not asked about a recent congressional ethics inquiry into the improper transfer of campaign funds. However, Bachmann said last week that was not part of her decision to leave.

I would love to see Trump, Bachmann and Palin run in 2016. With three such outstanding choices how can one make a decision. It would be agony.

Didn't she just recently apply to be a Canadian citizen as well? If she runs, I'd like to go ahead and congratulate Joe Biden on becoming the next president. No Tea Party candidate has a chance at becoming President ... ever! Your time was around the 1780s. Sorry, but you missed your window.

She should run and the GOP should endorse her. That way, they can get their other nominees a better chance for America to settle for.

The girl hasn't figured it out yet? She wasn't voted prom queen last year. She thinks she going to look better to the country 4 years from now? What a girl! One thing about Michelle – she can sure make any Democrat look smart in a heart beat!

Please, please run for POTUS, Michele .. the GOP needs you desperately (!) Please pick Sarah Palin as your running mate, too! Donald Trump would be a great cabinet member, so don't forget him.

I keep telling everyone that history is going to look back and say that the Republican Party crossed the event horizon and began its' fall into oblivion on election night 2012. The "Grand Old Party" now the "Grand Old Tea Party".

Just a ridiculous fairy tale designed to provide the illusion of viability. This kind stunt gets a few more thousand $ dollars on the speaking circuit taking money from (fully taxable) right wing political groups.

All the money she harvests from these groups means that much less money to actually do any real damage.

2016 is probably Bachmann's real reason for announcing that she will not run for re-election to the House. This will drive the far left media crazy. They despise and demean any female and any minority that would dare to align themselves with the GOP.

i would swtich my declared party (independent) just to help her win the primaries. A person who can't even carry their own home state (Romney/Ryan) running for president is always funny to watch.
