GOP tries to keep focus on IRS targeting scandal

Washington (CNN) – Remember the Internal Revenue Service targeting of conservative groups?

It was the scandal du jour in Washington last month, now relegated to back-burner status after recent revelations of a vast government electronic surveillance apparatus created in the name of national security following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

I guess Darrell Issa and his band of ideologically driven clowns will have to find something else to do.

    Winning

    @ Malory Archer

The fact that we don't know is the whole problem. I'm not a Bushbot, I hate him. Obama is just as responsible for the Patriot Act as far as I am concerned because he signed the reauthorization into law. I am a liberal, and I don't understand how any like-minded liberal can defend this program. Saying "well Bush did it first" is simply ridiculous, because regardless of that fact, it is still wrong.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yeah, except I never accused you of being a "bushbot", nor did I employ the "he did it first" defense. Your knee jerking so violently and the fact that I've been reading your posts for weeks are telling by themselves. That being said, can you imagine the feigned indignation from the rightwing if President Obama DIDN'T sign the renewal each time Congress presents it to him? Sure you can.

This was an issue, it needs to be corrected, but IT IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE in the country. The GOP needs to be focused on negotiating the BUDGET, launching a large rebuild AMERICA INFRASTRUCTURE initiative, getting some kind of reasonable GUN CONTROL legislation passed, resolve the IMMIGRATION issue, and then just maybe the country can begin to REALLY recover.... Oooh, one more thing the MEN of the GOP need to quit attempting to BULLY woman reproductive rights, some of the things being proposed are just STUPID and CRUEL......IT IS A LOSING BATTLE!!!

Republicans have nothing in their mind to do the work which they were elected for ( their very low job approval showed it yesterday). They are eager and happy to dance around the so-called "scandals" while they are not. This is totally wastage of time of each and every citizen. I assume those who elected them are paying the attention and won't reward this kind of behaviour come 2014.

I remember story about IRS checking if these groups qualified for tax exempt status. The press and Congress failed to ask 'If these politically active groups qualify why doesn't the GOP or the Democratic parties?'

When is he going to show all of the transscripts of the inteviews? I hope that Issa realizes that you can't only persue what his ideology tells him to because that will lead him (and anyone else that acts like that) in the wrong direction.

    -------------------------------------------------
No. Nobody in their right mind remembers that.
We DO remember the IRS looking more closely at groups whose names indicated a political affiliation (ie Tea Party) and yet were nonetheless applying for tax-exempt status.
    That I do remember CNN.

Or, it was relegated to the backburner because there was no "there" there.

But thanks for reminding us about it, Diet Fox.

When are we going to hear the closed door testimony from the witnesses the Issa convened? I hear that it blows issa's whole conspiracy theory out of the water.

Every citizen who loves and wants development done to his/her country should open up their eyes and see what the destruction republicans are doing. They tried to pull out all kind of scandals and so far have not worked out. They tried to fire up the Tea Party that they were victimised by IRS, still very few felt it. They have now with the help of Fox News to bring back that woman from Alaska to inject every Tea Party member with her poison words, of which I assume will not be successful as Tea Party members are people who do think by themselves as well.

I'll predict that some middle level manager, who just happens to be a registered Republican, is behind the entire thing, The whole affair is nothing than an attempt to expedite conservative applications through the system. It had gone wrong when groups didn't like being asked probing questions.. That's all there is to it.

keep investigating until the truth comes out. democrats and leftists want to ignore and bury every single obama scandal to protect this corrupt leftist. things have gotten so bad that even obama's waterboys in the lsm can't ignore it any more. you can be sure if all this had happened with bush in office, all this stuff would front and center every day on every newspaper and news broadcast. calls for impeachment every hour.

AND the fact that they were not denied exempt status. Issa is losing this big-time with his selective release of transcripts.

    Aw ,Humm,

You followed Nero and Rome right to the ground but still Now you blame Rome for your problems. I guess mirrors weren't invented yet. Why do you keep blaming everybody else?? For years and years the Liberal's had all those Social Programs sitting on the shelf until they found a way to get them passed. But you still aren't happy. That Snake Oil trick is gettnig old. Why do you keep buying it.

Can you imagine the poor soul at the bottom of the ladder, the one who had a pile of "tea party" applications dropped onto their desk, "here. we have a lot of these. let's get 'em done." And as they looked at them one by one ...

"Whoa!" "Wow." "Seriously?" "They've got to be joking." "Hey boss, most of them look like ringers to me."

The IRS scandal is off the front burner because the liberal media wants it to go away. The Republicans in Congress have to continue to use their power to investigate it regardless of the medias inattention and the attempted demonization of Darrel Issa among other Republicans. That is the only way the truth will come out. The Liberal media is completely in Obama's pocket and won't investigate.

I hope the gop keeps their focus on this issue that their teaparty tax cheat groups are return to get tax exemption status that they don't qualifies for and the irs goes after them for back taxes and penelties, like robes crossroads gps should pay no taxes after donating 70 million to cash starved romney, the other tax cheat. Remember son of bose tax cheat program pushed by romney to American business by romney for a profit, until he got Marriott fined 80 million by the irs for using it . These gop losers gotta go in 2014 mid terms.
