(CNN) – Sen. Mary Landrieu's 21-year-old son was arrested in New Orleans early Friday after police say he failed to stop his car after striking a pedestrian, and subsequently failed a field sobriety test.
Conner Snellings was booked on charges of driving while intoxicated, hit and run, driving the wrong way on a one way street, failing to maintain control of a vehicle, and possession of alcohol in a vehicle, the New Orleans Police Department said.
The incident occurred on New Orleans' famed Bourbon Street in the city's French Quarter. The pedestrian sustained only minor injuries.
Police said Snellings' breathalyzer test registered a .211 blood alcohol level, nearly three times the legal limit. He was released Friday morning on $9,000 bail.
Landrieu, a third-term Democrat, said in a statement, "We love our son whole heartedly, but we are extremely disappointed by his irresponsible actions last night."
"Those actions have serious consequences both at home and in our legal system. We ask that the public respect his privacy as we work through this challenging time as a family," she wrote.
Landrieu's brother Mitch currently serves as mayor of New Orleans, a position held by her father in the 1970s.
CNN's Mayra Cuevas and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.
Time to spend some time in the Slammer.
@ Steveo since you brought up Flake's son. What ever happened to Rand Pauls son who was under age and intoxicated and belligerent on a plane?
I don't see the news value. If Landrieu was trying to bury the charges then I think it would be news. Otherwise it's just another stupid kid behaving irresponsibly. If he faces the charges and receives appropriate punishment, it's just another DUI case.

No idea Don! If he messed up I hope he was disciplined and did not hide behind his daddy!
"There's the hit-and-run that should get him some time, no?"
Maybe, we don't really have the details...but yeah, that certainly aggravates things for him. True enough.

I agree this made the news only because of who his mother is. Just like the Flake kid story. Yet we can afford to be a bit casual about it because one we know or love was hit by this guy.
