The first family's European vacation

White House (CNN) - President Barack Obama's family will start their summer vacation with a trip to Europe, joining him as he travels to the United Kingdom and Germany next week, the White House announced on Friday.

First lady Michelle Obama and first daughters Malia and Sasha will start their three-day tour by attending the president's speech to local students in Belfast, in Northern Ireland.

They will then travel to Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland, while the president attends the G8 summit in the secluded Lough Erne, in the southern part of Northern Ireland. While in Dublin, Mrs. Obama and her daughters will tour Trinity College where they will look at the documentation of the president's Irish ancestry. The first lady accompanied her husband in 2011 for his visit to his ancestral hometown of Moneygall.

The Obama family will also be together in Berlin later in the trip where Obama will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and will give a speech at the Brandenburg Gate. He spoke near there in 2008 as he was running for president, and next week's speech will be near the 50th anniversary of a speech by President John F. Kennedy at the height of the Cold War when Berlin was under siege.

Mrs. Obama and the girls will do some educational sight-seeing with visits to the Holocaust Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, as well to the Reichstag, the German Parliament building.

But it won't be a completely educational trip. While in Dublin, the daughters will join their mother and the wives of the Taoiseach and president of Ireland for an Irish youth performance of Riverdance at the historic Gaiety Theater.

    @Sniffit,

    From my earlier post:

    "To be honest, not really. His vacations were here in the U.S. and, just like Obama, they are always working. The vacations the Obamas take are much more expensive and flamboyant.
    But I can be honest and say that I don't think that any president is truly on vacation. They are always working"

    Perhaps you should put a #4 to your past post. Let me help
    4. Tom, I guess I was wrong as you are perfectly consistent. I also forgot that since you voted for Ron Paul that you clearly aren't for any D nor R "team" other than Team USA. I apologize for making such assumptions about you and I was wrong.

    " that accused the TEA Party, in several posts, of having zero credit"

    That's the facts, Jack. Zero honesty, but plenty of racism.

    "The only straw man is you. You are the one that accused the TEA Party, in several posts, of having zero credibility because they didn't complain about the Patriot Act when Bush was president."

    No, I accused Teatrolls...i.e., the people who are NOW Teatrolls....of not having complained BACK THEN. Unless you are arguing that the Teatrolls are comprised entirely of people who are approximately 5-6 years old (setting aside their mental ages, which appear to be right around that), then you're simply flailing about with a deliberate mischaracterization of what I said. Are you arguing that the people who are now Teatrolls somehow didn't exist back then even though they weren't calling themselves Teatrolls at the time? Or are you arguing that they were just as vehemently opposed to Bush doing the same things but somehow magically managed to not be noticed by the MSM? Am I using words too big for you to understand?

    As for Obama, I'm not terribly pleased that he signed the reauthorization of the Patriot Act. However, it was pretty much a catch-22, both politically and practically. Moreover, as I've explained before, when these kinds of powers and authorities are created, also created is a duty to use them for the situations they were intended. Failure to continue these programs or even to reauthorize the Patriot Act, followed by an attack of any sort...even something relatively small scale and homegrown like the Boston Marathon attack...would have immediately resulted in the GOP/Teatrolls (and probably many of the spineless Dems who are cowed by the national security bluster) throwing a complete nutty and demanding his resignation or impeachment for dereliction of duty, negligence, etc.

    "So-called "Obama haters" are the mirror-image of "Bush haters"

    Finally, an honest post.

    I disagree with that characterization. Ron Paul's not for Team USA. He's for Team Every-Man-For-Himself.

    "So-called "Obama haters" are the mirror-image of "Bush haters". "

    Yeah, remember when Bush had to deal with accusations of not being a citizen or that he was a secret muslim or that he wasn't enforcing the immigration laws (even though he did far less than Obama has done to enforce them) and that he was trying to force sharia law into our courts and that he was a rabid socialist or communist or terrorist sympathizer trying to turn himself into a dictator or when Bush had to deal with hundreds and hundreds of filibusters such that new records were being set almost daily all just to obstruct anything he even remotely suggested and almost every one of his appointments? Remember?

    Bush was attacked for CONCRETE THINGS THAT HE ACTUALLY DID....lying about WMDs, outing Valerie Plame, failing to heed warnings prior to 9/11, etc. Obama has had to deal with completely fabricated nonsense from DAY ONE....and that includes the "scandals" that the House GOP/Teatrolls are still desperately trying to prove lead directly back to his desk, despite there being ZERO evidence for it.

    @Sniffit,
    Clearly you have zero understanding of the TEA Party. They came around because they were tired of too much taxation, with the early beginnings back towards the end of the Bush presidency.

    The TEA Party is about smaller govt. The Patriot Act is about larger govt. So, yes indeed, they would have complained about the Patriot Act had they been around back then and been completely consistent. When hearing of the escalation of the use of the Patriot Act, then they continued with their consistent mantra of desiring a smaller govt.

    The inconsistencies are primarily in the staunch D's and R's who now have mostly reversed roles. Now, the D's are all of the sudden defending the Patriot Act and the R's are complaining about the intrusiveness.

    And you really don't need to insult my intelligence either. You, again, make assumptions about me as a TEA Party backer that are just plain incorrect. For someone who doesn't think you should judge an individual until you know them, you sure do a lot of judging of TEA Party members without ever really having an honest conversation with them. You are the one that makes assumptions.

    But you don't appear to be a big enough person to ever admit that you're wrong.

    Sniffit,
    And, as a grown man, you really should think about stopping with the name-calling. It's something a fifth grader does and only reinforces my position that you are too emotionally involved to have an honest and fair opinion about them. You only go by what you read about the TEA Party rather than taking the time to speak with one of them. I'd be happy to educate you but I'm sure you already know enough about them, right?

    LOL. Preachy preach. Gotta love the cycle....Teatrolls throw inconsolable irrational temper tantrum calling everyone un-American socialists and responding to people pointing out facts contrary to their hissy fit narrative by just getting angrier and yelling louder, followed by people simply having had enough, ceasing to attempt to engage them and simply trying to stop them and discredit their nonsense...at which point they predictably claim victimhood. Right. The pooor poooor Tea Party and the widespread conspiracy to persecute them. Yawn.

    Gee Tom I. (how many names DO you have by the way, but I digress) Iwas unaware that you actually knew Sniffit personally. How long have you guys been friends or at least acquaintances? I mean you MUST know him personally to state tht he has never "really had an honest conversation" with a Teatard, er, Teatroll.
    What? You DON'T know him personally?
    My, then you can see how ridiculously stupid and hypocritical you come across in your posts.
    It appears that the only one making convenient assumptions to suit their half-baked theories and points of views would be.....you.
