Palin embraces SNL sketch, dishes out her own humor

(CNN) - There are so many scandals in Washington, Sarah Palin said, they could be lumped under the name of the botched gun-running sting that landed Attorney General Eric Holder in hot water long before the Benghazi, IRS or NSA stories came to light.

"These scandals are coming at us so Fast and Furious," she quipped at an annual gathering of conservatives on Saturday.

Palin was the final speaker and star of the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference Saturday program, where she served up her criticism of President Barack Obama with her trademark witticisms.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee offered no clues in her speech about her political future but was introduced by a video that culminated with footage of a roaring and rearing bear. It was a tribute to her "mama grizzly" effort on behalf of tenacious women running for public office.

Asked by CNN if she would be on the campaign trail again in 2014 on behalf of fellow Republicans, Palin replied, "Absolutely, more than ever."

"Time's-a-wasting. Things are moving really quickly and if we don't get out there and defend this republic then America will be transformed into something we do not recognize," she told CNN.

More: Priebus: Romney was vulnerable like a "duck on the pond"

She is also returning to television, where she has been largely absent since her contract with Fox News ended last year. The network said Thursday that she is returning as a paid commentator.

At the conference, she said the Washington controversies remind her of a sarcastic sketch performed by her "really, really good friends at Saturday Night Live." (They're friends, she said, because she provided actress Tina Fey, her look-alike, "job security.")

"Our government spied on every single one of your phone calls but it couldn't find two pot smoking dead-beat Bostonians with a hotline to terrorist central in Chechnya. Really?"

"Its built apparatus to sneak into all the good guys communications, but oops-a-daisy, it missed the Fort Hood mass murder of our own troops despite this Islamic terrorist declaring his ideology in numerous Army counseling sessions and on his own business cards," she said. "Really?"

More: Perry: Politicians aren't perfect

And the IRS "can't figure out how it managed to spend over 4 million dollars on a training conference because it didn't keep the receipts. Really? You try that with the IRS."

Palin swiped at a fellow Republican, too.

She appeared to reference former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's remark at the same conference on Friday that immigrants were "more fertile," made in the context that legal immigration could "create an engine of economic prosperity."

Bush is a proponent of immigration reform.

Palin responded, "I think it's kind of dangerous territory, touchy territory, to want to debate this over one race's fertility rate over another, and I say this as someone who's kinda fertile herself.

"I don't think that's where we want to go in deciding how we incentivize the hard working responsible families that want to be in the light, follow the law, and become Americans versus those whose very first act on our soil is to break the law," she said.

The former governor took what appeared to be a light-hearted dig at first lady Michelle Obama, who said while being heckled at a fundraiser this month, "One of the things I don't do well is this."

Palin said near the top of her speech, "If there's any protesters, speak now or forever hold your peace, because facing the protesters, facing the critics - that's something I do well."

She voiced her oft-stated dislike for Washington, calling it a "hot mess," and said lawmakers should listen to a senator new to the city.

"You know what I wish Congress would do - just for a week, perhaps, just put themselves on cruise control," she said.

"Ted Cruz control," she added, naming the freshman GOP senator from Texas who she campaigned for last year.

OK Sarah. I agree the NSA is too powerful, yet too incompetent to find anything useful. It is certainly too costly in this time where the GOP are looking for budget cuts. Let's get rid of the NSA, trim the military budget, inclouding getting rid of all properties on Oahu (like the nice 30 story resort hotel right next to the Hiton Hawaiin Villages, and the other properties on the beach). It the GOP is serious about budget cuts, let's do it. THe CIA and the Pentagon have become the 4th branch of government, acting outside the law and not subject to the checks and balances of the other branches. Get rid of them

"""""Sheeeeee's Baaaaaaack!!!!!!!!" And I love it. At least now there will be some "sparkle and content" to the debate, sadly lacking in WDC, particularly in front of Congressional Committees in appearances by Administration Officials. (Think: "I don't know!", "I was there for the Easter Egg Roll on the lawn with my children!", "I have to get back to you on this!", and the clincher: "Under advice of counsel, I am invoking my 5th Amendment Rights!" Now the pundits, so-called Media Folks representing the Ubber-Left, Left, Left of Center, and just plain old Democrats, stuck in the middle of the political spectrum, (think Moderate) will have "Sarah" to bird-dog 'em and call more than just a little attention to their "fau pau's", screw-ups, outright lies, "mis-statements (sorry), and other Democrat "leading from behind" kind of "governance", (or failure of same). It is going to be a "refreshing" debate and political season in the run-up to Nov 4th, 2014 now that """""Sheeeeeee's Baaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!"""""""

The character assassination tactics, intolerance, & downright mean spirited left wing tactics that those wing nuts love to employ so well is evident here in the posts as usual. I hope when they achieve their communist goal that they are on the receiving end of their own tactics. Maybe then they will realize what a blunder they have made. But it will be too late by then.

There is so much poison in her words it's hard to even listen to her. Someone should tell her it's detrimental to her health, and the health of her family.

Gee, her zingers are a real riot. Who writes her punch lines, he must be a real genius. We've already heard her lines more than 1,000 times before by every other right winger on the planet. It's not going to win elections.

Palin clearly is the most repulsive, grotesque reactionary desperate for high office and fallen from grace since Spiro Agnew.

The Republicans are made up and are run by a bunch of JERKS, no brains individuals. Anyone that elects them has to be the same. The Republicans are all about social issues, taking away women rights, voters rights, destroying education and the list goes on. They have been on these issues for decades, not knowing much about economics and the rest of the world.

Sarah Palin just might be the dumbest woman in America. It took her 6 years to make it through 4 colleges. John McCain must have been stoned when he picked her to be his VP candidate. She quit as Alaska governor after 2 years and the first time she opened her mouth to speak during the campaign, it was over for McCain. I sometimes wonder if she takes a stupid pill with breakfast.

PLEASE quit giving this woman any publicity. She is the primary cause that our nation is in the quagmire it is today. McCain made a horrible mistake selecting her as his running mate. She lacked experience – (only 2 years) as governor). Had he selected a seasoned political pro we our nation would be in much better shape than it is today.

And Fox News hired Palin back on as a commenter and contributor. Fox News is the worst. They employ many women who just read scripts all day, blasting the Democrats and Obama. They don't have a mind of there own. Just are the puppets of Fox News.

She waived her standard $1 million speaker fee (plus 3 1st class plane tickets, the consierge level rooms, and "other" expenses). But when all they offerred was a bus ticket, a box lunch, and Motel 6, she replied, "you'll have to do better than that, Fox gives me 3 bus tickets".

"Our government spied on every single one of your phone calls but it couldn't find two pot smoking dead-beat Bostonians with a hotline to terrorist central in Chechnya. Really?"

With this statement Ms Palin continues to demonstrate her lack of understanding by making a sweeping generalization. I suspect that most republicans wish she'd stay away.

The Republican Party not only stopped Obama- They stopped America dead in its tracks. America is supposed to be about progress not regress.
Their thinking is ageing them out of reality and they better start thinking about the changes this country needs to make going forward or they will become more irrelevant than they already are.

Last year, she took in over $5 million in donations. But the donors found out she spent all but $300,000 on herself, hiring script writers, promoters, makeup artists and english lessons. So what you see here is what $5million can buy. However, now that everyone knows what she did with the money, donations have fallen to $0 and her unemployment is about to run out.
