Washington (CNN) - The top Republican Party official on Saturday urged conservatives to unite behind his plan to revitalize the party and deliver electoral success in the upcoming midterm and presidential elections.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the party must avoid the situation of 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, where he was left sitting as a "duck on the pond."

Priebus advocated for the Growth and Opportunity Project he unveiled earlier this year after a review of the party's operations and 2012 campaign. He described it as a path forward that grassroots members of the party can support.
"It's not an establishment takeover," he said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington. "We're trying to do what's right. I'd rather win together than lose together."
The plan would mean a "permanent ground operation" to register and motivate voters, he said, countering the legacy of Obama's campaign apparatus and other Democratic-aligned efforts.
Priebus focused much of his criticism of the Obama administration on Attorney General Eric Holder, citing the government collection of phone and internet records, the botched gun-running sting Fast and Furious and his handling of terrorism suspects.
Probably the most liked and respected Republican right now is Chris Christie but the GOP will eat him alive during the primaries. The far right extremists and Tea Party hate how he governs for the people not the party and that he uses the dreaded C word- compromise. The Republican party said they were going to rebrand but now Palin, Bachmann, Trump and others like them are raising their voices again. They are the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic party.
The duck on the pond analogy would have worked if he wouldn't have "quacked" at all of the wrong times....
Nah, funny looking man with funny sounding name. Ducks have better sense than your twit.
Your party was stuck with what is probably, there's always 2016 and beyond, the worst group of candidates ever assembled. You went with the one who looked and sounded more sane but . . . . .
Trees the right height, dogs on top of cars, the 47%, he's unemployed, Bain capital, jobs to china, flip, flopping every minute, hour, elevator for cars in a house, $1K ugly fish tees on his rich wifey, non serving coward (and his sons). The list goes on and on but my favorite goes something like, "I meant what I said when I said whatever it was that I said"
WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO THE REPUBS MANTRA, JOBS JOBS JOBS. They seemed to forgot all that when they won big in 2010, i wonder if the american people learned their lesson for voting in such an obstructionist mess, while the country was tethering on destruction. all these repubs have done since elected, is sit on the side lines and watched, obstruct and push false scandals, was it worth it my american folks, what ever happened to jobs jobs jobs.
If Republicans move to the center to attract voters then what is the difference between the two parties?
How many other GOP are tax evaders like Romney?
Heard Preibus on my morning show trying to reach out to afro americans. Boy was it sad Tom Joyner asked one question and immediately Preibus was on the defense. The Gop doesnt want minorites just enough of us to vote for them. The sheets may not be white anymore but the same hate is till underneath.
The GOP religious right wants complete control of this country. One religion's ideas to dominate your life from conception , to your bedroom ,your education, your life style and finally to your death. This would be the end of democracy as we know it. This is NOT a white, Christian, male zealot driven country but a wonderful diverse United States. It must remain that way! Priebus, do you get it?
So the plan is to lie about how you really feel and pretend you are for what you are against all in the name of GOD and Country so your candidates can get elected? Same old GOP. You just don't get it.
In Mitt Romney, the GOP nominated a man who represents the worst aspects of lasses faire capitalism. He inherited his money, and his famous name's connections, from his father. He would have never been offered his opportunity at Bain had he not been a governor's son. He than exploited that good fortune to increase his wealth in the most despicable way; he took over companies and borrowed heavily against them, pocketed the loan money. He then put those companies into bankruptcy, destroying the livelihood of the people who had dedicated their lives to those companies and stealing their pensions.
Am I the only one who is tired of these spoiled little rich republicans, like Trump and Romney, putting themselves forward as financial geniuses when all they did was inherit their daddy's money and then use their inherited connections to line their pockets with no real work?
you Democrats aren't that bright.. If you can point out how small government is extreme,, I'll vote for a democrat..
No, Romney was not their best option. They should have stuck behind Jon Huntsmann. Perhaps even I would have voted for him. But Huntsmann would too NORMAL for this party. Too bad.
No doubt Romney would have been the much better president but as long as the inmates are running the asylum nothing will get better. Nearly 50 million on food stamps and a nearly 17 Trilion Dollar Federal debt. Obama Care killing ny real recovery. For over 80 years now people have been voting for this. Happy Landings!
Ray, Ray, Ray. How would America be any better off given Romney's "Cut taxes and spend" fix? Did the richest Americans need ANOTHER $800k in tax relief? And for what? They made no jobs. Shoot, Obama created more jobs that Bush did, BEFORE he crashed the economy. Same with the debt. Who went to war TWICE, AND cut taxes? That wasn't Obama, son, that was the idiot Bush.
No, sir, when it comes to putting the middle class out of business NOTHING beats the old dribble down economics of the radical Right.
The sad thing is that this is just the same old re-hash by RP and the boys at GOP Central saying:"Americans love us and our message. If only we could say it better". The fools simply refuse tho grasp that no one like their sorry sacks of lies that they try to pass off as candidates, and no one wants America turned into some sort of corporate plutocracy bent on the destruction of whats left of the middle class.
The GOP looks in the same mirror every day.
And the same old white man stares back.
Time for the GOP to get a new mirror, that reflects the rest of America.
Yeah, President Obama is just sooo horrible that Priebus now wants to COPY Predident Obama's campaign strategy. Talk about having NO original ideas.
