There's an alphabet soup of government overreach, Cain says

Washington (CNN) - The federal government is an out-of-control train racing down the tracks toward socialism and communism, Herman Cain said Saturday.

"We've got the IRS abuse. FEC intimidation. EPA discrimination. DOJ intimidation. NSA corruption. And it goes on and on and on in terms of the abuse and the corruption in the government that wants to control all of our lives," he said at the annual Faith and Freedom Coalition conference.

The former GOP presidential candidate denounced the government, accusing it of overreach and telling the conservatives gathered that "if you don't agree, they will try to find ways to silence you."

He said it's like a scene out of George Orwell's book "1984," which introduced the Big Brother government that controlled minds, journalism and virtually everything else.

But conservatives can retake government, including both houses of Congress, he said, through enthusiasm, activism and targeting specific races for office.

As to possible 2016 presidential contenders, Cain urged the conservatives to pay as much attention to potential 2014 congressional candidates and to break the high levels of incumbents being re-elected.

"Before you stop a train, you have to slow it down," he said. "Too many people are discouraged because they think that this is a sprint. It's a marathon. ... That's what we do in 2014: We focus on slowing it down."

Cain ended his roller-coaster bid for the White House about a month before the first votes were cast and has since continued to criticize President Barack Obama in speaking engagements and an online video channel.

Someone in power tells Cain what to say, and he goes out and says it.

    "But conservatives can retake government..."

They were and are "conservatives" who inflicted the PATRIOT Act and FISA on us in the first place. We don't need any more modern,Big Government, pernicious excuses for Conservatives, we need honest conservatives to go back to pre-neo-con legitimate conservatism that actually respected individual freedom and truly promoted small government.

And if Mittens (or, God forbid, Herman Ukbecky-becky-becky-Stan) had been elected we'd be at war with Iran, the economy would have completely crashed, unemployment would be at 20% and all social spending would be eliminated.

Oh, and the wealthy would be enjoying even more tax cuts so they can "create" jobs.

Get real, Hermie. Or better yet, get LOST.

Someone needs to tell Rince that letting fools like Palin and Cain speak for their party probably isn't a good idea, unless they wish to remain the disloyal minority for the indefinite future.

oh oh the clown car is making a u-turn and coming back, these no facts spewing folks need to be confronted by the main media, its a travesty to allow the repubs fake scandal crap to go unabated for so long. where are the coward dems to start disputing these insinuations the repubs are pushing without a blip of facts to prove what they are spewing. i know the repubs and their corporate media is way more organized and way bigger than the dem outlets. the main media is jumping on the fox and her corporate juggernauts bandwagon, and all the dems has to combat this juggernaut is msnbc. these repubs juggernaut news programs are organized with every one stepping in line of what the mantra is, which 90% of the times are lies. the problem is they dont care, and if the main street media want to make quick money they fall in line with the repubs crap. i am surprised the president still have any clout, from this massive attack from the right and her corporations.

Sorry Herman, what we have is the IRS doing their job; making certain that the flood of political groups have applied under the correct section of the IRS code. It turns out that many of the applied as social welfare groups instead of political organizations. There were so many of them that, naturally, they got a higher percentage of the scrutiny. The FEC? Similar but the newly formed TEA Party doesn't seem to think the rules apply to them. EPA discriminates against companies that pollute, no surprise there. DOJ? It's the GOP Congress that is trying to intimidate. NSA corruption? Of all the ridiculous accusation, this one is the worst. The Patriot Act, FISA Court legislation & Reauthorization, the Protect America Act !!!! Are you kidding? The Bush Administration made certain that the government was authorized to search our underwear drawers if they want! The American people were so scared by 9/11, they approved the worst invasion of our privacy in history. Obama's worst action was his inaction and failure to fully inform the public.

@Think Again, doesn't matter who's boss: we're at war with Iran, Syria and Russia NOW, the economy HAS completely crashed, and if it hasn't it will feel like it with ACA, unemployment with underemployment is over 25% NOW, and the wealthy are still enjoying more tax cuts, but they don't create jobs under Dems, they suck em up to avoid higher wages/taxes/ACA. Yeah, get real, or think again and again.

He has no idea what socialism is and or communism... saying it about America makes you a silly ranter AT BEST
Will he also remember his Owellian accusation arises out Of bush legislation called the Patriot Act.
I suggest he or any other republican do what they like which is opposing things and pass a house bill repealing sect 215, and any other necessary or the whole damn thing.
Problem fixed. if its a scandal its a scandal created of and by the Republican Party.

There are tons of things the Liberal's put in place that need to be eliminated . The States can take them up individually if the people in approve them. You know, if the states had to run some of the programs of the Federal governmend does, (Doesen't) many would become conservatives over noght. It's real easy when somebody has to do all your thinking for you, but when you look the bill in the face you dissappear like smoke in the wind. When Obama Care rears it's ugly head, be there. Pay up! You voted for it, don'r renigue!

I can't help but to juxtapose this Faith & Freedom Coalition w/ the new Iranian president's speech about "conservatism & religiosity"! There, it's part of how their government operates, here, it's a clear breach of separation of church & state! Yet the GOTP insists on taking their party down this road! Living under the spectre of a theocratically run government seems more of a possibility & should be a lot scarier than percieved socialism, for conservatives & progressives alike, because the whole party, esp. the Tea folk, seems committed to it! I don't like it & will vote accordingly!!
