Snowden says online he had to 'get out' of the U.S. before leaks

Washington (CNN) - The man who admitted leaking classified documents about U.S. surveillance programs purportedly went online live on Monday to declare the truth would come out even if he is jailed or killed.

According to the Guardian newspaper, Edward Snowden answered questions in an online chat about why he revealed details of the National Security Agency's secret surveillance of U.S. citizens.

Do people realize that the parts of Snowden's tale that do not match what anyone else claims (like them listening in without a warrant and that even he could do this) was all verbal.

It seems like the worst of his story is not verifiable, and the parts that are, we have known about since 2006 when the news debated NSA's ability to get Verizon's phone records back then.

I simply do not believe all of what Snowden has to say. I like to weigh the evidence.

It seems like he is simply embellishing a grate deal on top of what is reveled in the documents stuff we already knew about (collecting the records).

    Well, two things,
The Lad is still wet behind the ears and he has sold his birthright. Anyone remember the story of Eldridge Cleaver? Eldridge was a Black Panther hating the U.S. You can read more of it by Googling it. He left the U.S. and traveled for a number of years out of the country. When he finally came back, he said he would rather be in jail in the United States than a free man in any other country on the planet. Snowden doesn't appear that smart.

Snowden is a traitor and should be treated as one. For those who defend him as a whistleblower, they need to step back and look at the big picture. Snowden did not go to higher ups within his agency or the governament to detail the grievances he has claimed, he ran to another country and appears to want t osell his story to the highest bidder, be that another country, the media, whoever. He is a traitor, simple as that and if he isn't, then they need to let Bradley Manning go.

A hero does not hack into computer files that he's not authorized to access, copy them, and then flee to China.

Still astounded that ANYONE could call this guy a hero!
You said: "Snowden doesn't appear that smart"
I say: Neither does his supporters

He is a traitor AND a coward. I hope the authorities catch up to him. Now the British are probably after him also and they do have better connections in Hong Kong, if this is where this piece of slime still is.
BTW that residence of his in MD is his mother's condo not even his.

He is neither a hero or a traitor. But he is guilty of breaking the law and don't any of you find it EXTREMELY interesting that he went to CHINA to complain about the government over reaching? This once again is nothing REALLY NEW. It began with the Patriot Act and has been going on ever since. We still need to get the Congress focused on the BUDGET, NEW INFRASTRUCTURE projects, lower INTEREST RATES on college loans; INCREASING the MINMUM wage at least $1.00 and hour...These are the REALLY IMPORTANT issues that need equal if not more attention than this!!

"predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home" by "openly declaring me guilty of treason."

Duh! You're a traitor. Who took classified information and fled the country and divulged secrets. What else would you call it traitor?

As I said from the very begining; he has to go down . . . hard.

Snowden is a traitor, not a whistleblower. He has delusional views of his own importance and his own power/abilities. He lies; he didn`t make $200K per year. What he revealed about phone records and PRISM was not that the government was BREaKING the law but rather, they were FOLLOWING IT. Anyone upset about what Snowden revealed should see how their Congressman voted on the Patriot Act and FIRE them accordingly.

Snowden is now trying to stoke bad relations with Russia. There is no public good in that. The tensions he exacerbates will contribute to people dying unnecessarily. He is right to fear for his life because he`s playing a dangerous game with the big boyz. I`m a librul & largely civil libertarian, and I wouldn`t mind if he were shut up . . . if you know what I mean.

The Key question is -- Can Snowden confirm that the NSA is using IBM's 'Watson' AI system for analytics - to review US citizens' stolen data for evaluation of threats or value to the disguised Secret Global Empire ?????????
