(CNN) – In interviews, Ann Romney has said she and husband Mitt are finished with presidential politics. But the wife of last year's GOP presidential nominee isn't going completely quiet.
During Tuesday evening's city council meeting in San Diego, Mrs. Romney stepped to the microphone during a public comment period to voice concern over the California city's procedures for developing coastline properties.
She and Mitt Romney own a beachfront home in La Jolla they've been trying to expand for years. The revelation the proposed plans included a car elevator for the garage fueled Romney's rivals' charges the Republican was out of touch with ordinary Americans.
On Tuesday, Ann Romney – wearing glasses, khaki pants and a white shirt - spoke out against the city process requiring public notices for development projects, noting that her own permit was stalled due to inaccurate information being printed in the public notification.
"Notice defects can be problematic for transparent government and public participation, two things that Mitt and I strongly support," she read from a prepared speech, detailing several inaccurate dates that were listed in the environmental documents printed in the local newspaper.
"Even if the notice was not legally required to be published in the newspaper, a public agency making inaccurate statements in public documents can lead to the public's distrust of the process," she said.
Her remarks were sandwiched between a host of other San Diegans issuing comments and concerns during the public session. A representative of San Diego State noted football season begins in two months; two residents complained about the preponderance of marijuana use; and one woman declared San Diego a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah for rules barring public prayer, before herself launching into a long prayer for the city.
