Ann Romney returns to politics

(CNN) – In interviews, Ann Romney has said she and husband Mitt are finished with presidential politics. But the wife of last year's GOP presidential nominee isn't going completely quiet.

During Tuesday evening's city council meeting in San Diego, Mrs. Romney stepped to the microphone during a public comment period to voice concern over the California city's procedures for developing coastline properties.

She and Mitt Romney own a beachfront home in La Jolla they've been trying to expand for years. The revelation the proposed plans included a car elevator for the garage fueled Romney's rivals' charges the Republican was out of touch with ordinary Americans.

On Tuesday, Ann Romney – wearing glasses, khaki pants and a white shirt - spoke out against the city process requiring public notices for development projects, noting that her own permit was stalled due to inaccurate information being printed in the public notification.

"Notice defects can be problematic for transparent government and public participation, two things that Mitt and I strongly support," she read from a prepared speech, detailing several inaccurate dates that were listed in the environmental documents printed in the local newspaper.

"Even if the notice was not legally required to be published in the newspaper, a public agency making inaccurate statements in public documents can lead to the public's distrust of the process," she said.

Her remarks were sandwiched between a host of other San Diegans issuing comments and concerns during the public session. A representative of San Diego State noted football season begins in two months; two residents complained about the preponderance of marijuana use; and one woman declared San Diego a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah for rules barring public prayer, before herself launching into a long prayer for the city.

I'm always embarrassed when my city, AKA Sodom and Gomorrah, makes the news. Football and school prayer - those are the critical issues here. Meanwhile everyone's axles are out of alignment because of the ignored potholes in the road.

As to Ann's issue: sorry babe, we want public notices about environmental impacts to our coastline. We couldn't care less if you "own" it. When your unneeded development affects either the integrity of our beaches or the wildlife, it becomes public business. Deal with it ... dahlling.

the government has poured trillions into these areas around the country and it has done no good. the people that live there need to take responsibility for their own life and town. stop demanding others do what you should be doing for yourself.

    ---------------------
It takes a lot of gall to demand that there be no public notices about construction projects. If your project requires a waver of a zoning law, then Romney wants that to be kept secret? How arrogant can you get?

The public disclosure requirement is to protect the public from people with attitudes like Romney. Suppose, instead of a car elevator, they wanted to build a small warehouse to store maintenance supplies for their buildings and grounds. That means they could be storing significant quantities of paint, gasoline for mowers, gallons of ammonia, bleach and other cleaning chemicals, and other products with varying degrees of risk hazards.

You would need a zoning variance to put up something like that, and Romney wants to keep it a secret? From her neighbors? Don't you think the neighbors should have some say if you're storing hazardous products and chemicals. Well, apparently the Romneys feel they have a right to do anything they want, and it ain't nobody's business what it is. Nice neighbors those Romneys, huh?

Speaking of trust, the McCain campaign reviewed Mitt's tax returns and decided to run with Palin instead. lol Palin and Romney have many things in common, particularly the bizarre names of their children

If she feels that way about it, that it should be nobody's business what they do on their own property, then here's to a next door neighbor erecting a 50 foot billboard, sitting on a 20 foot pedestal, that says "You didn't want the support of the 47%, but 47% supported you, anyway." Aim it right at their backyard, and I'd dare them to complain. What goes around comes around.

If you look up arrogance in the dictionary, you should find a picture of Mitt and Ann. Unbelievable.
