McCain: Middle East about to 'erupt'

(CNN) - Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, reiterated Thursday that the situation in Syria is growing more dire by the day, and he blasted the Obama administration for not doing enough to stop it.

"The Middle East is about to erupt," McCain said on CNN's "The Situation Room." "This is turning into a regional conflict."

The civil war has been spilling into Lebanon and Jordan and creating tension in other parts of the region, he added.

Last week the White House announced the U.S. would begin providing military support to Syrian rebel forces. McCain, who's long been an outspoken voice on the issue, suggested Syria needed all the help it can get. "It's an unfair fight," he said forcefully.

While the Obama administration has not detailed what military support it plans to give the rebels, Washington officials have told CNN that support includes arms, ammunition and, possibly, anti-tank weapons.

But McCain said that will hardly go far in helping the rebel forces fend off Bashar al-Assad's army.

"Light weapons do not do well against scud missiles and tanks, and it's just shameful," he told CNN's Jim Acosta.

AZ old man, please stay out of the middle east. You palled around with a kidnapper and probably broke bread with somebody who knows the guy who cut open an enemy combatant and ate his heart on camera.
Are these the "people" we want to help? Really?

The Middle East is about to erupt and John McCain wants us right in the middle of it. I hope this time, if the US gets involved, Congress is smart enough to pass an armed conflict surtax to pay for it so our whole economy does not once again go in the toilet.

The Middle East is always about to erupt. Hey Mccain. The U.S. Is in no mood for another military action. The President is doing it correct. Slow and measured.

Why must the US be the World Police????

The Middle East has been fighting forever. I remember being a small child, watching the news and seeing the exact same scenes I see today.

Is anyone hearing what McCain is saying? I don't think he can hear it himself. It's this, "The middle east is about to erupt, so let's go in there and get it started." Right? Isn't that what Sen. McCain is really saying?

I'm so glad this warmonger lost in 2008. Can you imagine how many wars we'd be fighting right now? Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, N. Korea, and probably Russia.

This is ironic. Vietnam war hero John McCain supporting the anti-war (at least during Vietnam) John Kerry as Kerry tries to give arms to Syrian rebels.

Hey John, maybe you can get Jane Fonda to pose on top of a Patriot missile battery.

Imagine that. After all of Obama's and Clinton's soothing influence in Egypt and Liyba, how could this possibly be happening? Don't they know that Obama wants them all to just 'get along'.
