IRS also targeted progressive groups

Washington (CNN) - The Internal Revenue Service targeted liberal groups as well as conservatives seeking tax-exempt status, a Democratic congressman charged on Monday after the agency acknowledged the inappropriate practice continued until last month.

Rep. Sander Levin said the term "progressives" was included on IRS screening lists of applicants for tax-exempt status made available to Congress on Monday.

It's not a matter of who was "scrutinized", it's a matter of who was delayed approval until after the election. If the Liberal groups were also delayed until after the election, then both sides have something to complain about. If the Liberal groups were merely delayed for an extra week or so while under "scrutiny" but were approved prior to the election, then it's not the same thing at all.

It doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat or Republican, you shouldn't have a problem with the IRS scrutinizing applications for 501(c) groups that have a political agenda either way. 501(c) is for groups like Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels etc, groups that have a "social" agenda, NOT a "I Don't Want To Be Taxed" agenda

Funny, didn't hear one liberal, progressive, whatever group gripe that there 401 (c) (whatever) had been treated negatively during this whole process. To me its just typical government bull crap. make a story where there is none.

Of course the "progressive" BOLO pretty much guaranteed a rubber stamp allowance for tax exempt status. I don't think that counts.

Sadly, there will be more conspiracy theories on why these extra BOLOs with "progressive" targets showed up. It's bad when someone just can't admit defeat.

There job would be to make sure any liberal or conservative groups were not involved in politics while having tax exempt status. That's their job.

The only group denied was a progressive group for heaven's sake. We need to not allow any of these groups tax exempt status, none no matter what side they come from.

Now, why don't we just admit that blatantly political groups were targeted and the IRS was doing its job? I can't stand tax dodgers.

So, why have we not heard from the "progressive" groups that had their application for tax exempt status delayed for over a year? Are there any such groups? Is this just a target list that was never used?

Actually the only group whose 501 c 4 status was denied was a Democratic liberal women's group from Maine, a chapter of Emerge America.

It's so funny how the GOP just nail Obama with all these scandals. They act like Obama is worst than Bush Jr. If anyone says Obama is worst than Bush Jr then your voting rights should be taking away because Bush Jr. is going down as the worst President in history. Don't give me that little article about how Bush Jr. is favored over Obama because that stupid article polled like 2000 people.

So I wonder why Lois Lerner only apologized for targeting conservative groups. Sounds like a smoke screen to me.

No, No, No....this will never do. Conservatives won't have anything to complain about being persecuted. Please, Issa....have an investigation and tell us it just isn't ture. We all know only conservatives are persecuted.

Who committed the worst crimes a president could do? Fake weapons of mass destruction that killed many of our troops. The spy tapping and patriot bills. Bush Jr. took away the most rights away from the American people in U.S. history. Plus he murdered most of our troops so he and his family can profit on oil.
