IRS targeting scandal reshaped by new details

Washington (CNN) - New disclosures that the Internal Revenue Service targeted liberals as well as conservatives in assessing applications for tax-exempt status have reshaped perceptions of the scandal, shifting the focus away from Republican claims of political villainy.

Investigations by the FBI, congressional committees, the Treasury inspector general's office and the IRS continue, but Monday's revelations bolstered assertions by agency officials and Democrats that the problem was egregious mismanagement instead of intentional misconduct by the Obama administration.

Are the tea baggers now going after Issa? He just oversaw one of the biggest wastes of taxpayer money we've seeen this year. Billions spent with 0 return.
It would be worth it if Issa had any character whatsoever and resigned in shame over this witch hunt which he obviously orchestrated at the most... knew about it and proceeded anyway at the least. But alas, like all conservative politicians, he has no shame and like all conservative voters this will be forgotten or ignored right after Hannity pooh-poohs it tonite.

Let's see, is the excuse now to blame Bush? Or to scream racist?

Anymore all inclusive @$$ party arguments?

Wow, so now we find the IRS is an Equal Opportunity Abuser– not. If your a political group you should expect a closer look whichever side you are on. I think they should form a special division and recheck all of them, and those they find not falling into the 501c-4 definition (especially the tparty)--–Oops, back taxes, penalties, and interest due upon receipt.

Republicans will now claim that they were set up by Democrats, who tricked Republicans into investigating the IRS controversy even though there was no evidence to support an investigation.

That earlier statement was not accurate. I should have said "I always was extremely skeptical of the govt and their claims. Now I have been validated. It's not that I believe the repubs; because I don't believe them either. It's just that to any unbiased individual they would see how much we're lied to and how low the level is in Congress (they now stoop down to the level of name calling – Reid disagrees with repubs and callls them "crazies" and Obama now calls people who disagree with him about climate change as "flat earthers". What a great way to get people to work together! Not.

The latest and greatest is this "immigration" bill. The CBO (which I really don't believe them either) is on record stating this will only reduce illegal immigration by 25% yet this has to be jammed through. Both sides don't care about immigration. Dems want the votes, repubs want the labor. The honest American is the one who foots the bill. It's disgusting.

How many times has John Boehner attempted to question the "leadership skills of the President? Many, Many times. So now it`s time for some accountability . . . some PAYBACK for his baseless attacks.

Darrell Issa has LESS THAN ZERO credibility and yet he leads House Oversight. What a Joke he has become. No one respects him. No one finds him honorable. And, based on his selective lifting of transquipted testimony, the American people don`t trust him. If Boehner were a REAL leader, held FIRE Issa [Remove him as Chairman]. I`ve got to believe that the adults in the GOP [like Jeb] want to see Issa disappear as part of the Republican facelift.

Hournalists are always boasting about how they ask the tough questions so when is Issa`s expiration date going to be asked of the Speaker?

Third in line for the Presidency ??, I think not. Able to pass a farm bill, I know not! Able to clean up a GOP embarassment? We`ll see.

The recent scandals over the IRS and the security breaches really call in to question the competency of these inspectors general. It was astounding how little Patrick McFarland knew about how is department worked. He was unable able answer any substantive questions continually relying on staff to brief him during the hearing. It was obvious he had no idea what was going on! J. Russell George was playing the exposure to hilt. Of course when pinned down he either couldn't comment because of the ongoing investigation and kept referring to the process as an audit not a true investigation. Quite disturbing to say the least.

May be we need an independent inspector general to investigate these so called "watch dogs"?

This is such a bogus claim. IF the IRS really didn't just target conservative groups, then:
    1) Why did Louis Lerner apologize and create this firestorm to begin with?
    2) Why did the initial IG report find the targeting was only aimed at conservative?
    3) Why couldn't the lib-tards find ONE leftist group to testify that they'd been targeted?
    4) Why did this "new" information stem from an internal IRS audit, knowing they lied in the first place?
    5) Why did that slime Shulman meet with Obama 157 times?
    6) Why did his aide also meet over 150 times with Obama?
    7) Why was the initial head of the IRS during these acts promoted to the Obamacare / IRS branch / given 100k bonus?
    8) Why did Lerner have to plead the 5th?

For all the talk about conservatives being "flat earthers", it appears that the only people ignorant enough to buy this fabricated claim are those diehards on the left.

...and if the IRS employees didn't do their job and just rubber stamped these groups for tax exempt status, the same maroons would be howling about lazy bureaucrats.

Some details are coming out that everyone was targeted. We now have to wait for the full report that will show that there was no one side of the political spectrum that were targeted. It shows that becoming tax exempt is something that shouldn't be done easily.

If any of you believe you've never been targeted, you're in for an eye opener. Most of us, regardless of level, social position, or status have been investigated. Think not? What about your F.I.C.O. score? The Hall Of Records, in your local area, or state benefits centers. Investigated ! If you breathe, you've been fingered through like a cheap novel.

    So, let's sum up:
The GOP cooks up this fake IRS scheme.
Issa demands a report from the IRS on investigations into TEA Party groups.
Because that is the scope of the search, that is all that gets reported- TEA Party and Patriot groups received additional scrutiny, prior to getting their 501 (c) 4 "social welfare" tax status.
Under testimony, the IRS reveals, oh, no, it isn't just "TEA PARTY" or "Patriot" groups that got flagged. All the ones with "progressive" did too.
Issa, naturally being the arsonist, car their, suppressed that testimony.

As it turns out then, the IRS simply did its job.

Do we hear as much as an "oops" from the Right?

    Naaaah.
