Bloomberg to host fundraiser for Manchin

Washington (CNN) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is hosting a fundraiser at his home for Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, later this month, a source familiar with the event confirms to CNN.

Bloomberg, because of his wealth, has become one of the most prominent backers of gun control. He has praised Manchin for his leadership since he co-sponsored a measure, ultimately defeated by the Senate in April, to expand background checks for purchases at gun shows and over the internet.

A group founded by Bloomberg, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, pushed senators to support the background checks expansion and has criticized those who voted against it. Last month Bloomberg wrote a letter to New York donors asking them not to support those Democratic senators, Alaska's Mark Begich, Arkansas' David Pryor, Montana's Max Baucus and North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp, because they did not support the proposal.

Manchin, who had received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association when he ran for election in 2012, is now the focus of a NRA ad campaign criticizing his actions. Manchin recently launched a counter-offensive defending himself.

Tickets for the July 22nd fundraiser start at a $1,000 a person, the source confirmed.

BuzzFeed first reported news of the event.

He makes me sick. The only reason he gets away with as much as he does is because of his money. I hope this creep never comes to California.

“He said the extra year before the requirement goes into effect will allow the government to assess ways to simplify the reporting process for businesses.”

This will go over about as big as simplifying the IRS codes.

These are the real American heroes to me. They have money and they use their own money for the policies they support. Anyone opposing gun control is either a crook or a person facilitating straw purchases from criminals (same thing). No one in their right mind wants crooks to have easy access to guns.

Who said you can't buy a U.S. Senator? Poor Manchin, labeled a gun grabber by the people he represents and then Obama declares War on Coal to economically cripple his state. At the end of his term this guy will be lucky to land a job driving Uncle Joe Biden's golf cart. Only thing worse that can happen is if a photo of him hugging Paula Deen surfaces!

It is really sad that a wealthy self appointed little dictator can try to influence the lawmakers of this country to his way of thinking. Hopefully these politicians will not be influenced by his actions. I have no problem with the effort to stop the thugs from possessing firearms, however it want end until only people like the little dictators bodyguards can own firearms.

I find it ironic that Mayor Bloomberg is in such FEAR of his life that everywhere he goes he travels with armed bodyguards. What I really want to know, however, is how he, and his bodyguards are allowed to break Bermuda's gun law, where it is illegal to posses firearms, when he travels to his vacation home. Makes him a resident, and subject to their law. He violates their law, and it's okay? Anyone else find this ironic?

Kiss him goodbye. With his support of gun control and support of Obama's war on coal anyone in WV would be a fool to vote for him.

This guy is nothing but a facist, I will use my money and power to make you think like me. Manchin has completely sold out and will pay the prce from the WV residents. We have bigger issues to deal with than this nonsense.
