Kremlin: Snowden gives up on plan to stay in Russia

(CNN) – Edward Snowden has abandoned his effort to seek asylum in Russia after President Vladimir Putin warned that he would have to stop leaking information about U.S. surveillance programs if he wanted to stay, a Russian official said Tuesday.

The anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks said it had submitted asylum requests to 19 more countries for Snowden, the ex-National Security Agency computer contractor who has admitted providing secret documents on surveillance programs to reporters.

Mr. Snowden, if you were wise, you would come home and face the music. Otherwise, you're a dead man walking.

I thought Obama was going to help with our standing in the international community. Russia mocks us, Germany is angry at us because they found out we're spying on them, Syria has no concern for us and Ecuador was considering taking in Snowden. I'm sure it's the republican obstructionists that had something to do with it, right Rudy, Dutch, Lynda, Domincan, Sniffit and rs?

What have we become? This Snowden story reminds me of an old movie where the KGB is chasing a spy who has classified information that could embarrass the communists. As a kid I thought how "scary" it would be to live under a government who chased you and would do anything to stop you from "talking". It has become obvious that I do live under "that" government. Everything has become too big and out of control. I understand we need surveillance and secrecy to keep us safe, but where will it end, are there any limits? Do we just accept it or demand privacy? What a mess!

Snowden says he leaked the classified information because he believes the U.S. surveillance programs he revealed exceed constitutional limits.

I believe I'm paying too much in taxes.....but I pay them because that is the law of the land.
    Skippy Snowden is a traitor.
I delight in the fact that currently he is a homeless traitor.
Kudos to India for not equivocating and giving him a decisive "Hell to the no" answer to his request for asylum. He can hang out in the Russian airport concourse and pray that his daddy stateside bails him out of this one.
    Don't think so.

So Russia essentially says "If you stop spying we'll take you in" and the traitor says "No thanks".
    ?
    Really Skippy?

You'd think that someone dedicated to eradicating government overreach would've jumped all over Russia's invitation to stay in that country. After all Skippy, they only asked you to stop leaking information about the U.S. I would think that someone with your particular set of skills and commitment would feel like they hit paydirt by being allowed to make Russia their new home.
Why would you turn THEM down?

He might want to check with North Korea or Iran for asylum, I hear they have some rooms available at their asylums.
