McDonnell's spokesman denies resignation report

(CNN) – Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's spokesman hit back at rumors this weekend that the Republican governor will resign over a slew of recent allegations involving possible ethics violations.

A conservative blog, The Bearing Drift, reported Saturday that McDonnell will step down as part of a plea deal. McDonnell has been under investigation by the FBI for his relationship with a certain donor who has provided multiple gifts to the governor and his family.

But the FBI has not made any announcements about the investigation, nor has it given any indication that the governor will be charged.

McDonnell's spokesman, Tucker Martin, responded on Twitter late Saturday night, saying the report was false.

McDonnell acknowledged in a radio interview in late April there was much he wanted to say about the allegations but couldn't due to the ongoing FBI investigation. The governor said there was "nothing going on at all at this time that impairs my ability to do a good job and serve the people of Virginia."

The governor could face questions Tuesday morning when he appears on another radio program with the Norfolk station WNIS for an "Ask the Governor" special.

– CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

Interesting that it is the Conservative media leaking the impending McDonnell departure. One must wonder if the GOP is suddenly worried about reputation.... naaaah!
It's a battle between the Bearing Sea (oops Drift, I mean) and the strange looking nautical chap!

If you have to deny it, it must be true. McCorrupt has got to go. A $6500 Rolex isn't something you just give "friends."

McDonnell is indefensible. He was busted during the first year of his term for doing these exact same things. He was told to stop back then, or else. He hasn't. He's continued doing the same stuff and then some.

Besides Nixon/Agnew, when has a Republican ever resigned his office because of scandal?

Ethics violations? Who cares?? Charlie Rangel is still in the House of Representatives after all of his ethic violations. Some were even criminal violations.

What is not really being said is that this is McDonnell's second trip around the block for the same sort of stuff. Bob has been a bad boy. Bob McDonnell is a repeat offender. He was busting cheating taxpayers previously, and still has not stopped. And now, this FBI investigation into the worst of his criminal activities. All of which, he's been busted before.

He was busted during his first term for charging stuff to taxpayers that he shouldn't have, and this same donor's name turned up. He was told to cease and desist with all of the above. Two years later, he's still at it. He's cheating taxpayers by committing the same offenses. But now, he's apparently lied about the true nature of this donor friend of his. Someone Bob claims to have met a year before the guy paid for Bob's daughter's wedding. The list goes on and on.

Innocent until proven guilty. Democrats are ALWAYS throwing these types of accusations out to damage their political opponents and then call for their resignation. It is a pathetic political tactic as old as the hills.

There's going to come a time when tar and feathers are called for, and demanded by the public to show disdain for these so called leaders. Many of these so called leaders have been self appointed.

Spitzer, proclaimed that politicians need a thick skin to survive. Well Elliot, the public needs a stomach of cast iron to survive the politicians. This story of another thick skinned creep makes it clear, or as clear as it can get for a public that's swam in the swill so long they no not from leadership.

At the very least, democrats are smart enough to be silent when their folks do dirt. Conservatives are dumb enough to try and defend theirs. Oh, and blame the liberal media.

Too many of you get to wrapped up in the whole Democrat/Republican syndrome. Let the FBI do their job and if they find him guilty he will have to resign. In the meantime why don't the rest of us focus on raising a lot of noise about student college loans being over 3%, or the fact there are bridges and roads crumbling all over America and the Congress doesn't seem to care. OR, the fact the Senate, and President came up with different Budget plans for the country about 3 months ago and the Congress refuses to come up with one so it can go to conference and the FINAL budget is negotiated!! This is ANOTHER GLARING EXAMPLE of how our government is dysfunctional and preventing the stability the business sector says it needs to plan for the future. WAKE UP everyone, we need these people to do their jobs so there can be more jobs created for US!!!

Perhaps we need to unemploy all corrupt politicians. Imagine the echo coming from the halls of the U.S. Congress and elsewhere! Instead we circle the wagons around ours and shoo off the guys from across the aisle. Sorry, but these are the politicians we deserve! Somebody once said I am putting on the air of neutrality. Far from it! I said I lean right but vote issues! If that means crossing "party lines" so be it. I have done it before! The day I become neutral is the day ISSUES become neutral and I don't ever see that happening!

I don't recall, that is not my area, that was a low level employee, that is part of an on going investigation and I can not comment or I'll get back to you on that.

Sounds to me like Republicans don't like the idea of yet another tainted conservative seeking reelection in spite of the charges against hm, so they're trying to push him out by starting rumors that he's going to resign. Let's hope they replace him with a crazy Tea Party candidate who will help the Democratic candidate win.
