McDonnell points to 'irresponsible' rumors

(CNN) – Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia sharply tamped down rumors that he may be resigning as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

"I don't know where these things come up. Some of the press accounts have just been completely out of control about rumors, about resignation, so forth," he told CNN affiliate WTVR in an interview that ran Tuesday.

Texas House passes restrictive abortion measure

Austin, Texas (CNN) – The Texas House of Representatives approved a measure Wednesday that would place broad new restrictions on abortions in the state.

A state Senate committee is scheduled to vote Thursday on whether to send its version of the bill to the full Senate.

Growing emotional, Kerry says wife is 'doing better'

Washington (CNN) – Secretary of State John Kerry took a moment at the beginning of his remarks at the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue Wednesday to thank everyone for their support of Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, who was rushed to the hospital on Sunday.

"Teresa is doing better," Kerry said. "Under evaluation and we hope improving."

Former undocumented immigrant at Bush naturalization event

Dallas (CNN) - Former President George W. Bush on Wednesday welcomed newly sworn-in citizens at a naturalization ceremony, offering each individual a certificate and handshake before giving his own address on immigration reform.

Among the newly naturalized at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, Danny Diaz admitted he illegally crossed the U.S.- Mexico border in 1994 in a long journey from his native Guatemala.

Dallas (CNN) – There was no impassioned plea to pass immigration reform. But the image was unmistakable.

The sight of former President George W. Bush welcoming newly sworn-in citizens at a naturalization ceremony at his library and museum in Dallas on Wednesday offered a sharp contrast to the hardening opposition to immigration legislation in Washington.

New allegations against McDonnell emerge

(CNN) – As Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell faces mounting pressure over his ties with a top political donor, a new report details more potentially damaging claims involving the governor and undisclosed donations.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that businessman Jonnie R. Williams gave $70,000 to a corporation owned by McDonnell and his sister last year, on top of a $50,000 check to McDonnell's wife, Maureen, two years ago, according to people with knowledge of the payments.

White House touts economic benefits of immigration reform as GOP lawmakers huddle

Washington (CNN) - The sweeping immigration reform bill approved late last month by the U.S. Senate would boost the U.S. economy and help create jobs, the White House asserted in a report released Wednesday.

Long supportive of the Senate measure, President Barack Obama and his aides have pushed the Republican-controlled House to take up the comprehensive immigration reform bill, which includes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and strict border security provisions.

When the public last saw accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, he was climbing out of a motorboat dry-docked in the backyard of a Watertown, Massachusetts, home. He was covered in blood from bullet wounds sustained during a manhunt that brought greater Boston to a standstill. Tsarnaev was taken to hospital and he has been out of sight for the last 11 weeks. Wednesday, the 19-year-old steps back into the public eye, when he enters a courtroom for his arraignment.

Former top Obama campaign aides to advise Clinton effort

(CNN) – The group already pushing a 2016 Hillary Clinton bid for president announced Wednesday it was bringing aboard the services of two former aides to President Barack Obama's own successful White House campaigns.

Ready for Hillary, which has raised money and held rallies at events where Clinton is speaking, said they had partnered with 270 Strategies, a consulting firm run by Mitch Stewart, the director of battleground state strategy for Obama's 2012 campaign, and Jeremy Bird, who was Obama's national field director in last year's contest.
