Obama says Martin's death a tragedy, asks nation to respect call for calm

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama called on Sunday for "calm reflection" following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

The president, in a statement, acknowledged an emotionally charged climate but concluded that "we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken."

President Obama is a total loser, this tragedy is a call to talk about race relations in America, why couldn't george Zimmerman give trayvon Martin a ride home because he was walking in the rain and instead of stalking him and shooting him like a dog........

Make it easier for cancel and carry laws and watch crime drop, however that does not fit the neoliberal narrative. Shame on you, Mr President.

Why are you even responding? Don't you something better to do than comment on what really is a minor trial in some Florida backwater?

He needs to replace the word "gun" with the word "people". When "people violence" is addressed, we find a complex issue that many are afraid to address, and the issue does not have anything to do with the law abiding citizens who choose to conceal and carry.

Obama stokes the fires of racism to turn out the base in 2012, then tries to sound magnanimous after the verdict is read.If anything, Obama and the liberal media are to blame for this circus.

I think the President should take his own advice. Next time don't speak out before the trial.

Get off it Barry! You publicly took sides incorrectly in this case – just as you did with the white cop/black professor incident in Boston – at the very beginning by trying Mr. Zimmerman in the media and by proclaiming that if you had a son, you would want him to be like Trayvon Martin. You are a racist and you have done more to set back race relations in thi country than any one else in decades. You are allowed to get away with it because you are partially black. It is certainly true that Trayvon's death was a tragedy. But, you owe the entire Zimmerman family, including George, a public apology for your racist treatment of George.

A proper and dignified statement by the president, unlike his idiotic and racially divisive statement about how if he had a son he'd look like Trayvon, which is probably the only reason this attempted railroading of George Zimmerman even went to trial.

    Thank you Mr. President!

There is no question that a great and unfortunate racial bias still exists in this country; social, political, and economic. HOWEVER, we can choose to demonize the other side in this tragedy, or we can unite against a common enemy to all of us as citizens: POORLY REGULATED GUNS.

If I was in a fight with some stranger who was following me and then I discovered they had a gun, I'd be horrified and reach for that thing too (to make sure the stalker didn't use it)! And EQUALLY SO, if I was in a fight with someone that I suspected was a dangerous criminal on drugs, I'd freak out too if I saw them reaching for my gun and grab that thing!

The bottom line is that – FROM WHAT WE KNOW – Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Martin both made decisions that put them in the wrong place at the wrong time – but neither one of them should bear the entire burden for the mistakes of one another... Florida should.

Frankly there needs to be a call to stem violence, in general. We may never truly know the facts, however the forensic evidence pointed to Trayvon Martin assaulting George Zimmerman. Trayvon pounding Zimmeran's head into the concrete. If that is they case, what gave Trayvon the right to attack. If he did make an effort to grab the gun, what would have done if he had succeeded? The jury never did hear about the marijuana and gun posts on Trayvon's Facebook page. Fact is far too many of our youth today have no concept of civil discord. Violence is glorified and the value of life is minimized. Listen to the music and videos of the youth culture. Perhaps hold the entertainment community up to scrutiny. How about ask parents to take responsibility for their children. How about our youth respect authority.

The substance of Obama's statement is that he disagrees with the verdict. Using this case to try and "stem gun violence"? If Zimmerman had not legally defended himself it would've been Martin in prison for murder or assault.

What in the world does gun violence have to do with the Zimmerman case? So now we are comparing the violence that goes on around the country, where people are simply gunned down in their homes, or in gang wars, or by someone with mental issues, to someone who legally had a gun, and who used his gun in what has been determined by a jury to be a lawful defending of himself?

It would have been too much to expect Obama to mention anything about the power of justice over the power of who has the biggest mob. He is a lawyer after all, but more important is he is a political hack.

Wrong, response Mr. President. You should have said that you made the same mistake that so many people did. That you believe the media reports without checking the facts. That Trayvon was not a child. That Trayvon was not an innocent kid. That Trayvon assaulted Zimmerman that night. And that there is too much race baiting in this country by the media and so-called community "leaders". And that those people who committed illegal acts in pursuit of their own agenda to bring Zimmerman to trial when there was not enough evidence to convict will be held accountable.
