Romney staffers reuniting to help anti-Hillary super PAC

Washington (CNN) – Some of the top members of Mitt Romney's two presidential campaigns are teaming up in the nation's capital next week for a reception and dinner designed to raise money for a new pro-GOP opposition research shop.

According to an invitation obtained by CNN, the July 23 event is being put together by Matt Rhodes, the Romney 2012 campaign manager who earlier this year was one of the founders of the America Rising PAC. The group's mission is to track and gather opposition research on leading Democrats in the 2014 and 2016 cycles. It recently was behind the startup of the Stop Hillary PAC, which was formed to attack Hillary Clinton, should she run for president in 2016.

Read the invitation

A list of those hosting the event reads like a Who's Who of Romney's 2008 and 2012 bids for the White House. They include former senior strategists Stuart Stevens and Russ Schriefer, pollster Neil Newhouse, political director Rich Beeson, digital director Zac Moffatt, and Ben Ginsberg, the campaign's top attorney, among others.

Romney is not expected to attend the event.

Politico was first to report on the America Rising gathering.

- CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

    She hasn't even announced her candidacy and these morons are running anti-Clinton campaigns. Scared much GOP? You should be! There won't be a republican president for a very long time.

    And they'll be equally (in)effective in stopping Hillary as they were in catapulting the Mittsterbot into the White House. Same old rhetoric from the party of No – No solutions, No hope and No clue.

    Sounds like par for the course to me. Republicans, hard at work, against something. It's what they stand for nowadays. Issues? Defeating their opponents are more important than the issues facing this country. Whatever happened to "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs." and "Country First"?

    Oh goody. Now all you anti-Hillary supporters will have the opportunity to once again contribute to a losing cause. Just think: all these folks listed who are now begging for your hard earned money learned how easy it is to live on the dimes of others. None of them offer any real solutions to America's problems. But they sure are happy to go from hotel to hotel (penthouse suites) pretending to ... what, exactly? Ah, yes. Research the opposition. Too, too funny.

    You do realize they worked for Romney, the man who blew the opportunity to take the presidency because he was a clueless aristocrat with no new ideas and a common touch as subtle as a kick in the head?

    Nope, not since the GOP drive it into the ground, junior. Pushing things onto the public's credit card for 3 decades has left us with few alternatives.

  22. Is there still dirt out there?

    Say what you want about Hillary – but one advantage she definitely has as a presidential candidate is that it's hard to come up with dirt on her that hasn't been endlessly discussed. People are already SICK of all the scandals she's been a part of! If this is how the GOP wants to spend time and money, I say have at it boys!!

    @grannyof11,
    Let me guess–voted for Pres. Reagan (twice), who was older than Hillary.

    Would seems more right-wing hypocrisy.
