‘Stop Hillary’ group ramps up anti-Clinton efforts

Washington (CNN) - Hillary Clinton may or may not run for president in 2016, but the conservative effort to derail her potential candidacy is already underway.

Iowa poll: Who wins a Clinton-Christie 2016 showdown?

The organizers behind Stop Hillary PAC, a political action committee quietly incorporated in May, are stepping into public view this week as they ramp up their efforts to harangue Clinton as she mulls over her political future.

On Monday, the PAC is announcing its leadership team, steered by Ted Harvey, a conservative Colorado state senator who was a vocal opponent of the recent gun control laws passed in the state.

Also coming on board are Garrett Marquis, a media strategist and alumnus of John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign; Alex Shively, a former aide to Georgia Rep. Tom Price; Jacob Leis, a Colorado-based political strategist; and Dan Backer, a Washington attorney and lobbyist.

Those aren’t the most prominent names in Republican politics, but according to Marquis, that’s just fine. The PAC and its messaging are designed to appeal to grassroots conservatives and low dollar contributors, not traditional big donors.

Put another way, the group wants to be a boisterous party-crasher as the 2016 campaign gets underway, ginning up controversy and online contributions with barbed attacks against Clinton. To start, the PAC is releasing a video later this week “that will get a lot of attention,” Marquis promised.

Former top Obama campaign aides to advise Clinton effort

The organization’s plans to “Stop Hillary” are admittedly scattershot in these early stages of the race. Their portfolio could include “bracketing” events at Clinton appearances around the country, or local TV and radio ads, or social media efforts. If Clinton does decide to run for office, the PAC will be in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina waiting for her.

The point, Marquis said, is “to make noise” wherever Clinton goes.

“We’re supporting anything that is the opposite of Hillary,” he said. “We will play however needed, wherever Hillary is playing. If she endorses in the Virginia governor’s race, we will go there. Assuming she is active in Iowa, we will be there, too, and we will make some considerable noise.”

Clinton opponents plan donor meeting in New York

The group is separate from “Stop Hillary 2016,” a project initiated last month by America Rising, a new opposition research outfit helmed by former Mitt Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades and a pair of former Republican National Committee officials.

This is a futile effort. If you seriously think of all the different segments of the population that the GOP has managed to offend over the past 8 years, it starts to seem like a Ripley's Believe it or Not episode. Seriously, who's left to vote for the GOP but a shrinking base that is easily motivated by misinformation, fear and hate? Oh, and whatever happened to the Jobs, Jobs, Jobs mantra that we heard in 2010? The closest we get to that is a hasty warmed over repudiation of every jobs report.

She will make a great president. She is everything this country needs. Respect, intelligence, strength, honesty, professionalism and she cares. Which the Tea Party and GOP does not.

Looks like the slime is already beginning to spread. All the crap from Fox and Rush still keeps on ! Do WE the general public really believe in all the fairy tales that the GOP and Neo Cons spread ?
What a waste of time and money when it could be put to better use than trying to lie their way into the presidential office.

I just love how scared grown men are of a smart gril. But then again the GOP does not like smart girls, only the stupid ones like Sarah. These are the people that will die of a heart attach when Hillary wins in 2016. Let's clean house!

Hillary is history. Benghazi and the attempted coverup will sink her chances of winning office.

Instead of fighting potential democratic candidates they should present a better republican candidate.

You don't run a democracy by refusing to compromise, that's called a dictatorship. Since MORE than 1/2 the voters voted for a Democrat to be president, and MORE than 1/2 the senate seats are democrat, why do they think they can say "my way or the highway" by blocking everything through procedural nonsense. That's not American, that's insanity. The republicans are worse than any of our foreign enemies and their supporters are NOT patriots, because true American patriots believe in democracy.

Sadly, the republican brand is so badly damaged from all the religious fanatics and right wing nut jobs from the last election, it will take some time for the republicans to recover

Maybe - if Republicans change all their backwards and oppressive policies and beliefs on every single issue - they will have a chance at the White House in 2024. Hillary will win in 2016. I have no doubt about this.

Please continue, Governor, err GOP. The more you attack the more American independents will vote for her

Ah, the haters and the believers of all things pumped out by the right wing so called conservatives are present. Perhaps if the republicans want to be taken seriously for the next presidential election they should try getting a credible candidate this time.. The last batch of Republican candidates we had to choose from was pitiful. They should use their energy to find an intelligent, thoughtful candidate who has the American people's interests at heart instead of just screaming lies and hysterics at their rivals and hoping that that works. Personally I haven't seen much to get excited about in the potential Republican picks offered so far. P.S. Benghazi is a perfect example of a trumped up charge that if believed then we should have blamed Bush for the seven incidents that he ...using the same standards....bungled during his terms.

Hillary and Billie, have too many skeletons in their closets. Time to bring in some fresh blood. This article reads like a get out the vote scheme by the DNC.

I think America has witnessed all of the Clinton's it can handle. They both should concentrate on being Mr. and Mrs. Private Citizen. Lord knows they more than enough money to retire on!

Have you lost your mind. Hillary is just about the most dishonest person in politics and the only thing she cares about is Hillary. And most of the world thinks she is a clown and does not respect her.

Another chapter out of the republican play book . As soon as they think an opponent "might" be running for office they smear in an attempt to "poison" the water. Been watching politics for 40 years and they have mastered the art of smear, fear, and lies.

Hillary may have some negatives but when compared to those who espouse policy decisions right out of Nazi Germany led by Adolph Hitler, she is by far, the best choice. Only Chris Christie would have a chance against her but he is far to moderate to those of the right wing lunatics that have kidnapped the republican party and now made it resemble the Nazi party.

Hilary is an evil socialist/communist dirt bag. She's as crooked and rotten as the day is long. All she ever cared about was her own narcissist self, power, money, and feeling of importance. God help us if she should get anymore power! I don't know if she is the same or, worse than the socialist/communist/anti Christian in office now!

Our country needs a woman president. Women do not rush into wars. Look at all the American lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan and the billions of dollars wasted. I am an Independent and I would vote for Mrs. Clinton.

"conservative effort to derail her"? Seriously?

A Hillary candidacy would be a boon for the GOP. Obviously it would be even easier for a GOP candidate to win if the DEM candidate was King Jong Un or something, but that's not realistic. Hillary is the best realistic outcome for the GOP. RUN HILLARY RUN
