Washington (CNN) - The U.S. House on Wednesday narrowly defeated a proposal to sharply restrict the National Security Agency's phone surveillance program that was exposed by Edward Snowden.
A coalition of libertarian, liberal and conservative lawmakers pushed for curbs on the blanket collection of those records, arguing that it was too broad and intrusive.
One step closer to a totalitarian state.
This is the saddest day for Americans in hundreds of years. It's official, the constitution is meaningless now and all our George Orwellian fears will come true. Big brother is officially watching and listening, snowmen was right, Obama is a scumbag liar and America / the world is now totally screwed.
Those who give up there freedom for security deserve neither!
Good! Anyone who is fairly smart knew they were doing it and didn't need Snowden's self-righteous rants to find out! And Snowden thought his information was so important!
We need more people like Snowden!
We elected people that don't listen to what the people want. I have written 4 members of government on several issues I have had, all have sent a blanket email stating their opinion, what they aim to do, and to vote for them. We need to elect people that will actually be involved in the community and listen to the voters.
Yeah again we are in a state of civil distruction we lost our constitution and this shows it.
When it comes to Defence & war bills in the House everyone smiles. However, this time doing otherwise would have been giving Snowden a freedom ride.
The House of Representatives no longer represents me or democracy. That's what I got out of this recent decision.
These laws were created under a republican president!! the house is not going to undo them despite the media outcry. I am not sure of the level of Public distress because poll questions a re biased toward getting media desired results.
That said I oppose the increase in facilities staff and spending proposed by NSA both in the US and overseas ( UK and Australia) and a cap should be put on their already extravagant budget.
I will not vote for anyone that voted to keep this wrong. We have a constitution and it is the basis for our laws. It's time they remember it!
