Holder now going after Texas voting law in race debate

Philadelphia (CNN) - There is one thing to be said about Attorney General Eric Holder. He has a way with words that makes conservatives furious - especially when he starts talking about race and the law.

There are many examples. Early in the Obama administration, Holder said that we are "a nation of cowards" when it comes to issues of race.

He should. Section 3 of the VRA still lets a court "bail in" any state, region or locality that shows that it is still trying to discriminate as to voting rights, such that it now has to undergo preclearance. Given the piles of evidence TX created in 2011 with its redistricting map that got thrown out by the federal court for being "INTENTIONALLY DISCRIMINATORY" ...and the piles of emails between GOP/Teatroll state legislators that quite explicitly stated their intention to dilute minority voting power, particularly for Hispanics...TX should find itself back in preclearance in no time, but not under Section 4.

The rest of the red states that viewed the SCTOUS decision on Section 4 as their green light to go hog-wild trying to suppress and dilute the voting rights and voting power of minority, youth and other demographics are just creating their own record to be used against them under Section 3. Please proceed.

It is pretty clear that Obama and Holder intend to use and abuse the federal government to bludgeon states into submission on their far left agenda. I would suggest all of Texas law enforcement start arresting as many illegals as possible and dropping them off at all federal buildings for processing and deportation. Actually, ALL states should be doing this. FORCE them to do their job or be shown as refusing to do the job. I suggest the August 2013 be declared National Immigration Law Enforcement Month by all the states.

AG Holder is doing an outstanding job with all that he's had to deal with and I would love to see him "get busy" on the discriminatory practices regarding voting rights in TX. Who do these people think they are that they can bully tax paying citizens away from the polls? Hit them hard, expose them and then hit them some more. Keep up the good work.

I loooove, absolutely love this picture of President Obama and Eric Holder.
Two strong, super-intelligent, upstanding, dignified Black men LEADING our nation on the path to recovery not only of our financial stability but of our nation's CHARACTER.
So proud to be an American.

Since when is defending the rights of Americans' (all Americans) right to vote? Do you listen to yourself? Texas, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and other southern and or Republican bastions are the very definition of GOP over-reach. They are systematically dismantling our Republic by taking away the rights of fellow citizens.

Voting IS NOT a "Leftist Agenda"!

It's been one thing after another with GOPerville. Attacking this, that, and everything in between IS going to come back and haunt the Grand Old Party for years to come. The harder GOPerville makes it for mainstreet Americans to go about their daily business, the angrier even they will become. When GOPerville no longer has President Obama to finger point and blame, GOPerville will eventually start finger pointing their "own".

Popcorn time is right around the corner. Start stocking up.

Brilliant! Ever hear of (ancient) Sheriff Joe Arpiao of Arizona? The "toughest Sheriff in America? He felt he could devine who was legal and who was not in his "Immigration Sweeps". Too bad he arrested many native-born Hispanics, threatened them with deportation, and withheld their rights. Guess how many law suits and court trials that made occur? Guess the hundreds of millions of dollars wasted, on stupid- racially-inspired laws had to be paid out- that we, the tax payers had to bear?

You want to waste money? Call out the GOP.
You want un-constitutional law- call out the GOP.

Get a clue- Americans voting is not a "Leftist Agenda".

Enough already with the phoney race argument. We had made strides until the first black resident wasted an historic opportunity instead prefering to keep available the option of checking the "I'm not white block" give me head of the line on applications, assistance, admissions, et al.......stand on your own two feet and make something of yourself/your community. Whitey cant fix that for you. And if you oppose accoutability in the electoral process you clearly prefer the corruption and waste we see now by our clueless politicians.

What Eric Holder has said about race is what many of us know the President thinks about race.
If the President is confined and bound by the office that he holds from plain speaking then it behooves someone close to him, that "looks" like him and has a high-profile position to say what needs to be said.
I do not believe I will see in my lifetime another Black President. This one has been put through HELL. Therefore it falls on THIS President to make sure that people understand what it is like to be a Black man in this country...in 2013. What it feels like to be followed around in a store; to have people cross the street or not get into an elevator because they see a Black man there or approaching.
If not THIS President or Mr. Holder at THIS time then who and when?

In many respects, the actions of Obama and Holder are typical of the outlook of most African-Americans as every issue is seen through the prism of race and nothing else. It is not unlike driving your car by looking only in the rear view mirror. You run off the road a lot, annoy the other drivers who think you must be impaired and you don't get very far. African-Americans are so focused on the past that they can't see the future. All the while, the rest of the world is passing you by and you fall further and further behind.

That's right. The good ole days of shooting blacks down, intimidation, fire hoses and attack dogs is GONE and you better get used to it.

"Well, then. What IS GOPervilles plans for these poverty ridden folks who won't be eligible for expanded medical care?"

To understand it, you have to first start from the understanding that the Teatrolls in the states refusing to implement are generally convinced that wealth is an indicator of a person's virtue and worthiness and that they believe almost all of the "poor" are minorities. Their hope is that this will force all of "them" to leave their state and move to blue states that offer the coverage. It's their idea of getting all the people they consider undesirable to "self-deport" from their states, so the demographic shifts that are occurring don't turn their precious red states purple and blue.

Thank you for providing an example of the type of gross overgeneralization and stereotyping that makes constant vigilance and consciousness of racism in our country an absolute necessity.

So now the far leftists think enforcing our immigration laws is the same as Hitler exterminating the Jews in WWII.... unbelieveable. You people are really really sick upstairs.

proof??? where's the proof??? don't our courts operate on the basis of proof and facts?? or are the leftists able to go into court and present their wacky theories and speculation as fact? well, if there is a leftist judge sitting there, i guess that is how it works. so basically the laws and courts are a sham as long as the left controls them. they will just be bent and twisted to do whatever they want them to do.

I explained it in the very first post. Pretending the proof doesn't exist (or that TX hasn't buried themselves up to the ears in it) is just silly. There's already a lawsuit underway. Have fun with that.

To ????/ African Americans can see the future, we see people trying to push this country backwards. Where blacks had no right to vote or anything else. Please remember that the Civil Rights movement was not just for blacks. Do you think, that if this was going on under President Bush that he would be looking out for everyone's right to vote?

When you come back in your next life as a Black person you can spout all the cute but useless analogies you want about what Black people think and feel.
You can take that comment from this Black hispanic.

I suspect skin color is the main reason why Holder gives conservatives hives. The top law enforcement officer in the land a black guy? Intolerable!

I defer to Sniffit's legal expertise on Sections 3 & 4 as they apply to voting rights. I only wonder why we can't just have national standards for voting, applied to each state. We'll never be the "United" States until we have such standards.
