Reid: A President Hillary Clinton 'even better' than her husband

Update: After this story was published, the senator's office clarified that Reid was referring to President Clinton, not President Obama. The post has been updated to reflect that change.

(CNN) – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is gushing over his former Senate colleague Hillary Clinton, saying Wednesday night the former secretary of state would do a "better" job in the White House than her husband.

"Hillary Clinton may have a bigger fan than Harry Reid; I just don't know who it would be," he said in an interview that aired Wednesday night on PBS' "NewsHour."

The Nevada Democrat praised Clinton's work as former U.S. senator and as the nation's top diplomat, saying her legacy will "go down in history books." He added that he "of course" has "such admiration for the president," but Clinton would fare better as the country's chief executive.

Remember, the last three or four years he was here we reduced the debt and created 22 million jobs – pretty good deal. And I think that they're a pretty good team, but she'll handle things probably even better than he did," he said. "I think that they're a pretty good team, but she'll handle things probably even better than he did."

"Is that right? Even better?" the host, Judy Woodruff, asked.

"Oh, yeah," he replied.

Asked in the interview if he'd like to see Clinton run again, Reid said: "I don't know what more I can say than - to be a cheerleader for - than what I've already said in this interview."

    He clearly just said she would do an "even better" job than HER HUSBAND, not Obama.

    You may have meant well, Senator, but your remark is cannon fodder for the right wing. You just made your own job that much more difficult.

    Hillary will be far worse than Obama..........as bad as Obama IS!

    That would be the worst thing, that could happen in 2016, other than Obama establishing a Totalitarian state........with himself as dictator........which is still entirely possible. He is hard at work, already to influence the 2014 vote to make that happen!

    Very tacky and counter-productive of you Harry Reid.
    You"ve done the current President a huge disservice and have put yourself on the same column as the obstructionists, detractors and agitators that he's had to contend with from BOTH sides of the aisles during his entire tenure as president.
    Don't even THINK about asking me to send you another donation.
    You should've curbed your enthusiasm and tempered your praise of Hillary at the expense of the President.

    @Dominican,
    I'm curious if you thought Pelosi, Reid and the democrats were "obstructionists" to GWB when they referred to him as a loser, a liar and a total failure.

    All I can say is Hillary ought to be looking for a way to move up the Presidential election to next Tuesday because three years is a long time to be the undisputed front runner. Let's not forget that Hillary was considered a "shoe-in" for the Democratic nomination in 2008. I don't think too many people thought an Africian-American junior senator from Illinois had any chance of winning his party's nomination.

    This article and the headline are a FANTASTIC example of the knee-jerk MSM attempts to create controversy where there is none and point the Nontroversy Bus straight at Obama in an attempt to run him over.

    22 Million is the figure from Clinton's presidency, not Obama's. It's not even debatable that Reid was saying he thinks she'd surpass her husband. I'll grant you that he spoke slightly ambiguously, but anyone with a brain in their head should've picked up on the cues in what he said to correctly interpret it.

    Correct! This article is terribly inaccurate. There is not one quote to suggest that Reid was talking about Pres. Obama.

    He didn't say "past 3-4 years"...that's the clue. He said "Remember, the LAST THREE OR FOUR YEARS HE WAS HERE we reduced the debt and created 22 million jobs – pretty good deal." Last, not past. It changes the entire meaning. Moreover, he'd be dead wrong if he was saying 22M jobs have been created under Obama first 4 years. It took millions to get it back to a positive net figure, but not quite that many.

    Democrats are going to have to get used to this if she is planning on running. And, yes. It IS going to be a right wing talking point, regardless. This type of talk is for Hillary to either encourage or walk away from. Let's see what she's got up her sleeve, because however she chooses to play this out - it WILL make or break her presidential bid.

    Just saying.

    @Sniffit,
    Are you still worried about the "time stamp" issue with Weiner or has your Karl Rove on election night moment ended? I love how skeptical you are of that story in its early stages but for some reason you didn't have that same measured approach with the governor of Virginia.

    either the writer of this article messed up and used current instead of former or harry reid is senile but the fact that he didn't think hillary clinton was worthy of his support in 2008 speaks volumes. he now wants to get her to run because he know biden would be a disaster for the democrats. hillary getting elected would be a disaster for the country.

    Yawn. Logical fallacy. You don't get to insert YOUR opinion into the "math" in order to impute it to REID'S statement.

    ***************
    Calling W those things did not make them obstructionist: actually being obstructionist, a la McConnell and Boehner, does. Democrats were a minority party for most of W's presidency, anjd he needed their votes to get any sort of Medicare or Immigration reform accomplished. How is it that simple name-calling equal to McConnell's and Boehner's obstructionist votes on everything from the debt ceiling to health care? As usual, you can't even be honest about your own side's performance, or lack thereof.

    Going one better than Bill Clinton wouldn't be hard, and would still be a long, long, way even from "adequate," let alone "good."

    'ol Harry is right on this 1 – she would take advice from the one who gave us a surplus. She should have been the one in there, but instead, we got one who is not only over his head, but in-experienced as well. People may say what they want about 'ol Joe, but he's the one who was pulling the strings, for the first 4 yrs. He's handed it over now, b/c it's all going to end up in a lame duck scenario, from here on.
