Vandals splatter Lincoln Memorial with green paint

Washington (CNN) - Vandals splashed green paint on the base of the Lincoln Memorial's statue overnight, prompting officials to temporarily close the marble fixture on Washington's National Mall, authorities said.

Police were alerted just before 1:30 a.m. and found paint splattered on the leg and base of the 19-foot-tall statue of Abraham Lincoln, U.S. Park Police Capt. Steven Booker told CNN Friday. There were no discernible letters or markings.

Lincoln was a tyrant. He violated the Constitution numerous times. Few realize the chair he is sitting upon is decorated with fascists. Same with the House of Representative Chamber and the Capitol.
Lincoln was not a duly elected president by any stretch of the imagination. My High School history teacher was correct.

Why? I don`t understand vandals. I see some are already blaming their political rivals. I don`t see that in this case.

    @ just a thought –

Let's start with injured veterans, that's an easy one. Anyone who comes home injured fighting for this country should fully expect to be cared for by the government who sent them to battle in the first place. I cannot fathom anyone of any political persuation to think otherwise.

Clearly there should be assistance to those who cannot help themselves.I find it abhorrent that anyone in this country suffers from hunger. Most of my charitable donations, both of time and money, are concentrated in community food banks and soup kitchens.

But lines have to be drawn for those who CAN help themselves but WILL NOT. The problem I see with with government programs is that they tend to throw money at the SYMPTOMS of the problem, not the root cause. Until that changes, the country can continue to proceed this way wilt little to no chance of measurable success.

Slavery? The fact that it ever existed in a country that was founded on the premise of liberty is, in my eyes, the darkest mark on this country's great history.

    --

Lemme guess, Glenn Beck told you that. The chair is actually decorated with FASCES which are widely used symbols in the US in federal, state and city government. See the National Guard Insignia, the facade of the US Supreme Court, the State Seal if Colorado, the Mecury dime, the Mace of the US House of Representatives just to name a few. Fasces is a Latin word meaning "bundle" and is a symbol depicting a bundle of bound wooden rods.

"Lincoln was a Republican The Confederacy was started by the Democrats. Can any liberal state anything Democrats did for Civil Rights"

Ignoring the party-switch in the south after passage of the Civil Rights Act and in response to desegregation, etc., is just silly. All the dixiecrats became GOPers, which birthed the Frankenbigot monster we know as today's GOP.
    ---------------------
Maybe the question should be, "Can any conservative state anything Republicans did for Civil Rights?" Sorry, Civil War doesn't count. Name something in the 150 years since.

Little to no air time should've been given to this.
They should've cleaned it up and let this act of idiocy die a quiet un-sensationalized death.
Stupid should not be rewarded with free publicity.

Perhaps people have begun to explore the truth about Lincoln...........a man we built a monument to........who was one of the worst presidents in this country's history..........who attacked and started a war, that left 640000 Americans dead, because he chose NOT to allow southern states to go their separate way, peacefully.

Perhaps you need to re-read some history (clue- NOT Bill O'Reilly's). If you think states "peacefully" (Ever hear of Ft. Sumter?) separating from our United States is not a justifiable federal action, you're simply irratonal, and certainly not a patriot.
Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower are about the only good Presidents the GOP has had. I wouldn't toss them away so blithely.

"But lines have to be drawn for those who CAN help themselves but WILL NOT. "

OK, I'll play along, what do we do with those who "can but will not" that is different from those who simply "cannot"? Or hey, why don't we start with you explaining how we fairly and constitutionally differentiate between the two in the first place, since it's apparently ever so clear in your mind.

Personally, I think vandalism is a form of terrorism. Just because it doesn't kill people does not mean that it's not terrorism. Terrorizing property can be just as frightening as directly terrorizing people.

Careful. Sarah Palin and Republicans campaigned on clean energy in 2008. They campaigned for all forms of energy production: from oil and shale to solar and wind. Oil was selling at $147 per barrel in the summer of 2008.

The growing level of disrespect in this country is morally repugnant. The depraved minds responsible for this atrocious act should be caught and sentenced to clean up every work of graffiti found in the city of Washington D.C.

About half the country always thinks this, the half that likes the current political climate.
A sports referee can always count on half the players on the field not liking a particular call.
