Four-part series on Hillary Clinton in the works

(CNN) - The title "Rodham" has already been claimed for a forthcoming film, and now a new series coming to broadcast television will use the other half of a famous name: "Hillary."

It could find a larger audience than other such projects in the works – it is being produced for a broadcast television network.

Former secretary of state, senator, first lady – and possible 2016 presidential candidate – Hillary Clinton will be the subject of a four-hour miniseries coming to NBC, the network said Saturday.

Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Clinton, and the series will be written by Courtney Hunt, whose debut film "Frozen River" was nominated for an Oscar.

NBC said the series is in "early development" alongside other historical-themed projects.

"Hillary" will begin in 1998, the year her husband, President Bill Clinton, denied having had an affair with a White House intern and was impeached by the House.

It was not clear whether an actor would be cast to play him or who that would be.

"In the years following, she would eventually become a United States senator, run for president and, ultimately, serve the country as secretary of state," the network said.

The producers of "Rodham" have not yet announced a leading actress but said they are talking to a number of potential candidates. It will focus on an earlier period in her life when she worked on the House committee investigating the Watergate scandal.

Update, 7/29/2013: CNN announced on Monday that CNN FILMS is planning a documentary project on Hillary Clinton, produced by Academy Award winning producer and director Charles Ferguson.

Ha ha! I guess that Citizen United cuts both ways. The conserva"bubs" will hate this! Justice is alive and kickin' after all. Hooray for network TV!

Let me guess, it will be a fluff piece, full of pro hillary nonsense and will come out just prior to the 2016 election.

I prefer the original real life story as to some proposed contrived sensationalized media created story.

I donot care who plays Hillary; the idea of this show is a stretch of the imagination/wishful thinking by the producer. The only show I would watch about Hillary is one in which her arrogance and self-rightious demenor is put down and she is shown for what she really is – a person out to glorify herself and promote big government. Remember her statement from yeras ago -'it takes a village to raise a child'. Well she wants to be the village for us all.

Nice to see the Hollywood PR folks are already stepping up to push her for President.

That miniseries must cover Hilary's total failure at the State Dept, the deception of a video, and the loss of life under her watch. CNN and NBC are Hilary's cheerleader PR firms.

    (crickets chirping)
    Well, that was interesting...
(applause of one from a distant corner)
Probably could have used the benefit of another decade or two before the fuzzy filter on the facts wasn't so obvious.
(grinding sound of the NBC political branch trying to reel in the losses)
    Jay Leno is right.

And the media and Hollywood are already pining for the first woman president. Will the future first gay or Hispanic President please stand up? 2024 will be here before you know it.

Isn't this how the liberal / progressive left helps elect candidates? We have to shape public opinion in advance of the campaign...

The movie will be far more interesting if they wait 12 years when she's finishing her second term as president.

This is a joke, correct? What will NBC do if the Biden/Spitzer ticket wins the nomination? What foolishness. How can NBC even pretend to be impartial? No wonder George Zimmerman is suing these clowns.

The Liberal push has began ladies and gentleman. We need to stop this witch from ever getting near the WH again. She must face questions and take responsibility for the Benghazi murders and dereliction of duty.

I'm sure NBC can see how this would be considered campaigning for Hillary. She is a presumptive candidate for president in 2016!

An NBC propoganda ploy to get her elected? Else they will include her shady business dealings, her own health care debacle and her campaign's initiation of the "birther" issue.
