Four-part series on Hillary Clinton in the works

(CNN) - The title "Rodham" has already been claimed for a forthcoming film, and now a new series coming to broadcast television will use the other half of a famous name: "Hillary."

It could find a larger audience than other such projects in the works – it is being produced for a broadcast television network.

Former secretary of state, senator, first lady – and possible 2016 presidential candidate – Hillary Clinton will be the subject of a four-hour miniseries coming to NBC, the network said Saturday.

Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Clinton, and the series will be written by Courtney Hunt, whose debut film "Frozen River" was nominated for an Oscar.

NBC said the series is in "early development" alongside other historical-themed projects.

"Hillary" will begin in 1998, the year her husband, President Bill Clinton, denied having had an affair with a White House intern and was impeached by the House.

It was not clear whether an actor would be cast to play him or who that would be.

"In the years following, she would eventually become a United States senator, run for president and, ultimately, serve the country as secretary of state," the network said.

The producers of "Rodham" have not yet announced a leading actress but said they are talking to a number of potential candidates. It will focus on an earlier period in her life when she worked on the House committee investigating the Watergate scandal.

Update, 7/29/2013: CNN announced on Monday that CNN FILMS is planning a documentary project on Hillary Clinton, produced by Academy Award winning producer and director Charles Ferguson.

Shouldn't they wait until about 2024. After her presidency – seems that now there is much more of her story yet to be lived before it can be told

Sounds like NBC is desperate to get this woman into office. Though, as much of a miserable leader she is, she'll be better than what we've had with the current administration.

We dont need this woman as president. After 8 years of loser presidents, we need a true leader that will look out for the best interests of all of our citizens.

Wow, the title "Rodham" will be a wake us slap to Bill. If you titled the series Hillary, everyone would know who it is. Oh well, what goes on in their house is their business.

I worked on the Obama Campaign in 2012 and I have friends who are Democrats and Republicans. So from a pure unbiased view I still see this as a very unsettleing piece of propoganda. There is no reason to make a mini series, except for the fact to make people think "Hillary is not so bad, I believe she'll make a good president". I'm an independent and I believe the politics in this country are slowly consuming the media, bit by bit

Will there be equal time for this PR campaign piece? And will they do the piece like they did Sarah Palin?

It'll be interesting if it tells the truth about her sordid past shrouded and dogged by misconduct, lies and implications in fraud and murder, or if it will actually be propaganda trying to get her into the white house.

Expected to win an award for lowest all-time ratings. Hilary – what a joke.

Should be good. Starting with the sleazy southern politics she and Bill ran, then the humiliating debacle with randy Bill in White House, followed by the defeat by Obama and then covering for him on Benghazi. Oh wait; Hollywood is a liberal den, so it'll be a fawning tribute designed to bolster her chances for a run at the White House.

Let's hope it also covers the dark side of Hillary. Like the court evidence that suddenly showed up in her closet after two years...

Oh goody, can hardly wait to see a mess of creative fiction instead of the truth about Whitewater, Vince Foster, Travelgate, Benghazi, and the overthrow of the leadership of Egypt, and Libya.

Yes, of course, liberal NBC and Hollywood are in the back-pocket of the Dems and Clintons... these two productions will be released in tandem in 2014 and 2015, to prime up voters with propaganda to elect Hillary in 2016. Coincidence? I think not.

Wonder if they're going to portray all the cover-ups, lies, and attacks on the poor women who were assaulted by her husband...or are they going to fictionalize it?
