(CNN) - The title "Rodham" has already been claimed for a forthcoming film, and now a new series coming to broadcast television will use the other half of a famous name: "Hillary."
It could find a larger audience than other such projects in the works – it is being produced for a broadcast television network.
Former secretary of state, senator, first lady – and possible 2016 presidential candidate – Hillary Clinton will be the subject of a four-hour miniseries coming to NBC, the network said Saturday.
Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actress Diane Lane will play Clinton, and the series will be written by Courtney Hunt, whose debut film "Frozen River" was nominated for an Oscar.
NBC said the series is in "early development" alongside other historical-themed projects.
"Hillary" will begin in 1998, the year her husband, President Bill Clinton, denied having had an affair with a White House intern and was impeached by the House.
It was not clear whether an actor would be cast to play him or who that would be.
"In the years following, she would eventually become a United States senator, run for president and, ultimately, serve the country as secretary of state," the network said.
The producers of "Rodham" have not yet announced a leading actress but said they are talking to a number of potential candidates. It will focus on an earlier period in her life when she worked on the House committee investigating the Watergate scandal.
Update, 7/29/2013: CNN announced on Monday that CNN FILMS is planning a documentary project on Hillary Clinton, produced by Academy Award winning producer and director Charles Ferguson.
Sounds like an Onion post. Who'll watch?
Hillary will announce her candidacy right after it is over, so no campaigning for her election here folks, move along. I'm sure all about her role in Benghazi will be fully covered.... No bias here!
Cool! I love TV
I would have expected Fox to do something like this.
Sounds to me like NBC is trying to give the Dems some free exposure early. I wonder what the Repubs. will have to say about that?
Can't the networks just stay out of politics? NBC , if you're trying to raise ratings, a movie about Hillary is not going to do it. In the end we all know this isn't about ratings though with a potential run by Hillary in 2016. Just know that out of the gate, you've already lost half of America.
Another fixed election on the way. She hasn't even announced and already the networks are planning to make sure she wins. What the heck has happened to this country?? Maybe it deserves to fall completely on its tail end. The corruption is so rampant all it brings to mind is the Roman Empire and look where the corruption go them.
Who plays the Part of Monica L?
I live in North Korea.
NBC- Aren't they the network that fabricates news to stir up racism in America?
hope they tell the true story. if they do, she will not run in 2016.
So who's going to play Monica Lewinsky?
Please no. Haven't we suffered enough?
NBC releasing a miniseries on Hilary Clinton timed to precede the 2016 presidential election? Naw, mainstream media ain't biased! . . . .Go figure.
So NBC is now officially a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party?
Why don't they just call the show Saint Hillary – you know the media is already working to get her elected as our next president. As if our country isn't in enough trouble as it it – who needs another career politician.
Shoulder pads, lies, tears, tissues, and letting Bill make me look foolish, while pretending to be empowered: the Hillary Clinton story. A powerful tale of one womans quest to do whatever it takes to attain power, no matter how many times you have to bury you head in the sand.
she investigated water gate with a vengeance, Benghazi, Bills cheating and lying not so much.."What difference does it make?"
Can't wit to wath. We luv u Hillary Rodham!
Maybe Gunderson can get consessions on phone booths where this air. Tickets anyone?
The conservatives will be barking like rabid dogs. I mean they could have done the "McCain Story", telling his heroic winning of the Viet Nam war from a prison camp or the Romney story. The story of a polygamist family that fled to Mexico and their grandson that grew up on the streets in the rich part of town that ran for President and lost to, shudder, a black man! There's always the Bush jr story of how the town drunk became President. Oh wait, they made that into a film called "W".
NBC, the right hand of the liberals
Thank GOD I stopped watching Television.
Sure. Let's pick something where she didn't get in trouble. Right before elections kick off. Sure. Pure pap.
"What difference does it make at this point!" BENGHAZI!!!
