(CNN) – Former President George W. Bush, 67, underwent a procedure Tuesday morning to have a stent placed in his heart one day after a blockage was discovered in an artery, according to a statement from his office.
In the statement released by Bush's spokesman, the procedure was "performed successfully," without complication, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
"President Bush is in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday. He is grateful to the skilled medical professionals who have cared for him," the statement read.
The blockage was found during Bush's annual physical examination at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas on Monday.
"He thanks his family, friends, and fellow citizens for their prayers and well wishes. And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.
The 43rd president was known for having relatively good health during his tenure at the White House. For exercise, he was an active runner and frequently rode his mountain bike.
According to his 2006 annual exam, his medical history at the time showed no signs of hypertension or stroke, and he had 'low' to 'very low' coronary artery disease risk profile with a favorable family medical history and absence of modifiable risk factors.
The report also stated he had "minimal/mild" coronary artery calcification, a fairly common sign of early artery disease in which the lining of aortic wall becomes inflamed and plaque starts to build up over time. Calcium deposits begin to form in the artery wall.
Bush's statement Tuesday did not release details on whether his artery blockage was related to his past medical history.
Also, the White House announced in August 2007 that Bush was treated the year prior for Lyme disease. A White House spokesman at the time told CNN that it is "not uncommon" for Bush to get tick bites during his bike rides.
Lyme disease can be transmitted through the bite of a tick that carries the disease. The problem had been resolved, with no re-occurrence and no other symptoms, the White House said six years ago.
His 2007 physical exam also reported bouts of mild vertigo, but it did not interfere with his work.
Bet all you 0 voters wish G.W. Bush were back in office, eh? Hope and Change never panned out, did it? Idiots.
Nope, never. When Dubya was in office I was paying well over $5/gallon for gas. Somebody drained my 401k while getting billions of government bailout dollars. Darn near lost my job, my house, and my wife. Nope, never again.
Next up...the blockage in his brain....
I didn't agree with his policies but I wish him well and a fast recovery.
Paid for by us
PAID for by us TAX PAYERS!
How many Americans would be able to get the same quality treatment as GWB received (without having to fight with insurance plans and co pays, provided they have health insurance)? My answer is less than 50%!!!
Be well Mr. President. I have two stents myself, you will feel much better! My best to you.
I am just appalled at some of these hateful comments. No wonder our country is falling apart. Shame on all of you. What's happened to compassion for our fellow man? I'm so glad the procedure went well and they found the blockage early! Wishing you a speedy recovery and please know that there are so many people out there that wish you the same. You are a wonderful man with an equally wonderful family and I wish you nothing but the best!
I sure do miss 'W'. You don't know what you've got until it's gone. We now have a President who is can't find the time to lead because he spends all his time trying to be 'Cool' and playing golf and going on extravigant vacations. 90% of the new jobs created this year have been part time and he keeps telling us the economy is improving. 1 year later we still don't know what happen in Begazi and nobody has been arrested. George we sure do miss you and wish you a speedy recovery. God Bless!
Good to hear that this went without complications. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
"... And he encourages us all to get our regular check-ups," the statement continued.... "
I wish him a full recovery. I also wish he will at some point at lease ponder his comment. Not everyone can afford their regular check-ups. Just saying.
Entire the MiddleEast is distabilized because of this guy. But I like to wish him well. Good luck, George.
He was a terrible President, but I wish him well.
God speed Mr President. We miss you.
You're in my prayers. I DID like your policies and wish YOU were still in office. I and many others miss having a REAL president!
Get well soon, President Bush! God Bless you and your family!
I wonder if the procedure involved NE-CLEAR testing.
Good for you Mr Prez, and I am way to smart to vote democrat. My parents raised me with a work ethic.

No, we don't.
We've almost recovered from your presidency, thanks for asking.
Ahh the looney left at it again. Bush tried to get healthcare reform done, but the Dems didn't want it to pass because it would be a positive thing. It's why they waited until Obama was in office. Dems only care about "helping" if they get the credit. Bush and most of the GOP don't care about the accolades, they just want to get things fixed.
Uh yeah...$15 BILLION to fight AIDS in AFRICA....so heartless...
Though the demise of our great country has been a going on since Reagan....the bush years put the last nail in our coffin...
So George wants us to get regular exams, we would if someone will help us get affordable health insurance.
