Date night for the first couple

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama and wife Michelle left the White House Thursday evening to celebrate the president's birthday at a Washington restaurant.

The traveling press pool reported the Obamas were dining at Rasika in the northwest section of the nation's capital.

"The President and First Lady are going out to dinner to celebrate his birthday," the White House said.

Obama turned 52 on Sunday.

According to its website, Rasika serves modern Indian cuisine, offering "small plates, a modern lounge, and a temperature controlled wine cellar."

The traveling press pool reported "few people seemed to notice as the motorcade drove down Pennsylvania Ave, stopping at the lights along the way."

Wow! A vacation for Obama and Michelle, is this any different from the one they have been on for the past six years. Our country is in the worst economical state of affairs, and as promised by Michelle our troops are no closer to coming home as she promised or should I say lied about to get her husband re-elected. But I do want to know when the President is going to come on the TV and tell the American public how upset he is, like he and Michelle did with Trayvon, about the 13 year old girl in Clayton who was strangled by 2 black boys for her bike. Let me know when Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and all the civil right leaders have their say, I want to hear it. And I'll definitely be waiting for that "ass" Nancy Grace, the drama queen of TV to get involved, anyone want to take a bet, no one does.

Joi is right. You guys really need to lighten up. It is a feel good story. It isn't that uncommon among presidents to go out to eat, but I forgot that it is Obama this time so you guys can't have the non-white president using tax payer money like ALL the ones previous have done. You all have this fake outrage. The restaurant is only 3 dollar signs on yelp which means about $30-$50 person for a 3 course meal. The GOP has wasted millions of dollars on meaningless votes to take down Obamacare but where is your outrage on that? Looks like an amazing place. Good choice.

I criticize the president plenty, but to be angry that the man went out for his birthday is absolutely ridiculous.

CNN is in the tank. CNN movies about not-yet-declared candidate, Hillary? CNN's Candy Crowley as the Democratic plant moderating the presidential debate? Not only is this not news, it is CNN actively distracting from bad news on the White House doorstep. That is not just bad journalism, it is propaganda. Journalism is DEAD in America. We are on our own.

"I hope all of you who are being nasty just to be nasty are not teaching your children to be nasty just for the sake of being nasty."

I wouldn't bet on it, Joi.

And, yes, absolutely it is a nice story that should not cause hate filled comment from anyone. Eventually CNN might even go the extra mile by simply not opening up certain articles for comments which CNN knows - indeed both sides of the political aisle know - will be filled with spiteful rhetoric.

And this is one of the top news stories on CNN. That's all you need to know about CNN's dedication to covering the news in an unbiased fashion. Can you imagine CNN posting an article as one of it's main headlines, "Bushes Go On Date night"? Neither can I.
LOL. Eating in a public restaurant was beneath the Bushes. Ditto for the Romneys. I am reminded of his stop, early on the campaign trail, at a coffee shop and being fascinated by the doughnuts. And who forgot his hilarious remarks about cheesey grits.

"I am learning to say y'all and I like grits, and things," he joked. "Strange things are happening to me."
