Date night for the first couple

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama and wife Michelle left the White House Thursday evening to celebrate the president's birthday at a Washington restaurant.

The traveling press pool reported the Obamas were dining at Rasika in the northwest section of the nation's capital.

"The President and First Lady are going out to dinner to celebrate his birthday," the White House said.

Obama turned 52 on Sunday.

According to its website, Rasika serves modern Indian cuisine, offering "small plates, a modern lounge, and a temperature controlled wine cellar."

The traveling press pool reported "few people seemed to notice as the motorcade drove down Pennsylvania Ave, stopping at the lights along the way."

@ Just a thought I don't care about his race. He could be any color. That does not matter. I don't see anyone else that has their date night with their significant other put in the news. This is suppose to be their private time. Hope they enjoy it.

JD – What a great comment. You hit the nail right on the head. And, if Obama backed breathing fresh air, the republicans would hold their breath. Bye Bye party of NO WAY

  9. ProudDem soon as I saw this story I knew before I clicked on it that there would be dozens of comments, mostly slamming him. It's a "disgrace" he went out to dinner....OMG he's awful....even calling this a vacation. Wow. I honestly dont know where this rabid hatred comes from. I can't believe it's all racism. All these calls that he's "ruining the country"...let's see...we're in one less war, soon to be none...went from losing 800,000 jobs a MONTH to 40+ months of private sector job gains (and repubs wont allow any public sector gains) home value has 401K has doubled...record corporate industry saved from destruction...people allowed to serve and die for our country no matter who they love...the dreaded health care law projected to lower costs in every state that ISN'T fighting it....oh yeah, and the ever terrifying deficit has been cut in half...we even have had a few months this year with a surplus. Is everything perfect, no, but never has honestly folks, hyperbole aside...why do you hate this man so much?

To the people that's complaining: Run for president, make tough decisions that may or may not be in the best interest of America, lose sleep, work around the clock, miss important milestones in your childrens life, stay under the microscope and in the world's eye, be loved by some and hated by many and basically lose all of your rights to enjoy a normal quiet life. Once you've done that and then some, SHUT UP. He's the President. He's entitled to enjoy a night out with his wife. He was married before he became President and I'm sure he wants to continue being married when his term is over. He's not the first President to go out on a date with his wife and he won't be the last. Every President before him has had some personal time to themselves.

@linda "We love the change and America is headed in the right direction"

So you are cool with drone bombing 1000's (mostly innocents), continued spying on us, bombing Libya to protect the largest oil reserve in Africa, keeping Guantanamo open, etc.?

A cute couple picture is really not going to make people forget.
Although the American public has surprised me before.

Why is this an issue? Most couples go out to dinner for birthday's or anniversary. So, I am not clear; he is not suppose to enjoy his birthday? And, how do you know tax payers paid for this? He does make money from his books and has other income outside of what he gets as our president. What I am reading there is that everyone wants him to suffer and be miserable because America's economy is not where it should be? So, are you blaming him, like its his fault 100%? This is absurd. Republicans, big business, government/Politian's and even we masses contribute to what our economy is and is not. Furthermore, while he may have had the purposeful intention to bring troops home and create change that we all want, he does have Republicans in his way stopping him at every turn. And, he can't do it alone. We the people have to work with him. We need to elect better local gov reps and do our part in order to help create the change we want to see. Stop looking for scapegoats to make yourself feel better. Let the man and his wife enjoy his birthday. He is entitled to do that just like you are.

Obama just went out for his damn birthday, unlike some presidents who liked to celebrate their "birthday" almost every day when they were in office.

Very nice. At least they got out of the White House celebrate his birthday.

All of these people who are complaining how is this different than Ronald Reagan and his Imperial presidency with all the fancy parties? I was a Reagan supporter. People complained about those events too. At least this president went to a restaurant.

Please stop the spiteful rhetoric, he deserves to have a good time on his birthday.

The type of stuff that people post on here is stuff I expected to here from little girls when they are fighting over a boy. But seriously the votes were in twice, he wont the first time then some how got re-elected. Let move on from that it can not be changed now. So you are telling me that the president could not go out for his birthday because its on tax dollars money, that is crazy. Why do people always look for negative things to bring other people down. Lets look at the bright side and move on. An someone said the economy isnt doing so great when was the last time you seen it at 15,000 points plus......
