(CNN) – The half brother of former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown was arrested Thursday in Old Lyme, Connecticut, accused of weapons charges and impersonating a police officer.
According to a press release from Connecticut State Police, Bruce Browne of Wolcott, Connecticut was arrested early Wednesday evening.
It's unclear why Bruce Browne spells his name differently than Scott Brown. The two men are half-brothers with the same father.
In an interview with CNN affiliate WMUR, Sen. Brown, a Republican, said that he and Bruce Browne were estranged.
Brown mirrored those sentiments in a statement on his Facebook page, saying that he only knew what was in the media.
"I read about it in the news this morning. As you many of you know, my mom and my late father were married and divorced 4 times each. Unfortunately, we were not close as a family," Brown wrote.
"These are serious charges and he will need to answer them. I feel badly for his children and I am thankful that no one was injured."
In his 2011 autobiography, "Against All Odds," Brown elaborated on his estranged relationship with his father and half-siblings after his parents divorced when Brown was very young.
The press release from Connecticut State Police said Browne was arrested wearing blue camouflage pants and a bulletproof vest that said "police," driving a vehicle outfitted to look like a police cruiser. Inside the car were three loaded semi-automatic pistols and 200 rounds of ammunition.
State Police also said Browne commandeered a boat earlier in the day Wednesday and used it to stop at least three boats on Long Island Sound, using an expired Coast Guard ID to ask for boat registrations. Browne was formerly a Coast Guard reservist.
Browne was released on a $50,000 bond and is due back in court Aug. 22.
The guy sounds like a nutcase. And while I'm no fan of scott brown, what does his brother's arrest have to do with the former senator? He isn't his brother's keeper.
Why is this news? If the former Senator was involved and arrested, then it would be news worthy.

None of the GOPers/Teatrolls are. The only parts of the Bible and Jesus teachings they listen to are the ones that they can misuse to self-declare their own moral superiority over other people.
