Biden headed to Iowa for high-profile steak fry

Updated at 8:19 p.m. ET on 8/11

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Iowa next month to deliver the keynote speech at Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry, an aide to the vice president - and potential candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination - told CNN's Jim Acosta on Sunday.

An Iowa Democratic official also confirmed Biden's upcoming visit to Harkin's steak fry, which typically attracts a high-profile crowd of national Democrats. Its setting in the first-in-the-nation caucus state makes it a natural stop for potential White House hopefuls.

Snowden’s father responds to Obama’s claim his son is not a patriot

(CNN) – President Barack Obama’s assertion Friday that Edward Snowden was not a patriot for leaking details about top-secret American surveillance programs was brushed aside Sunday by Snowden’s father.

Priebus: It matters who airs Clinton films, not who makes them

(CNN) – Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Sunday that his organization’s planned debate boycott was focused on NBC and CNN – which plan to air films about Hillary Clinton – and not companies which may produce those projects.

Priebus, speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” was responding to a question from Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley about a report in The New York Times that Fox Television Studios was in the “early stages” of talks to produce NBC’s miniseries about Clinton, set to star Diane Lane. Fox Television Studios is a corporate sibling of Fox News Channel and the Fox broadcast network.

RNC chair not picking sides on GOP Obamacare tactics

(CNN) – The Republican divide over whether to shut down the federal government in a bid to end President Barack Obama's health care law is merely a tactical split, rather than a larger ideological rift, the party's national chairman said Sunday.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," said he wasn't picking a side on the issue, which has pitted establishment party members against their younger colleagues.
