Obama to head out on bus tour

Edgartown, Massachusetts (CNN) – President Barack Obama will dust off his presidential bus and head to New York and Pennsylvania for a two day tour next week, the White House announced on Monday.

Obama, currently vacationing on Martha's Vineyard, will use the trip to "discuss another cornerstone of his vision for a better bargain for the middle class," a White House official said, without specifying any details of the president's speeches.

Sen. Ted Cruz's dad makes fiery anti-Obama speech

(CNN) – Rafael Cruz, a pastor who left Cuba as a teenager amid the nation's revolution in the 1950s, told a crowd of evangelical conservatives this weekend that President Barack Obama's policies mirror those of Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro.

Cruz, whose son Ted serves as a U.S. senator from Texas, linked Obama and Castro through their promises to citizens, describing Castro as a "young charismatic leader who rose up talking about hope and change."

San Diego mayor out of rehab, but locked out of office

Los Angeles (CNN) - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, facing a growing tide of sexual harassment allegations, has completed his two-week intensive behavior therapy a week early and will begin outpatient treatment, his lawyer said.

But he might not be back at work in his office any time soon. His chief of staff changed the locks, according to numerous reports, including one by CNN affiliate KFMB.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to seek re-election

(CNN) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will formally announce her re-election bid Aug. 26, her spokesman confirmed in a Tweet Monday morning.

Haley's planned announcement was first reported by The Greenville News in an article Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey tweeted Monday.

(CNN) – Ron Paul's post-Congress, post-presidential campaign venture will provide conservatives another avenue for reaching voters, the former Texas lawmaker says in a behind-the-scenes look at his new TV setup.

Ron Paul TV launches Monday, and subscribers who pay $9.95 a month will gain access to broadcasts and interviews from the three-time presidential candidate.

Weiner's first TV ad: 'Powerful voices' against him

(CNN) - Anthony Weiner's campaign for New York City mayor released its first television commercial Monday, though the spot didn't allude to the lewd messaging scandal that rocked his campaign and preceded a drop in the polls.

The spot instead focuses on Weiner's plans for the city, and features the candidate speaking directly to voters.

Rodeo clown mocks Obama at Missouri State Fair

(CNN) - A rodeo stunt at the Missouri State Fair has come under criticism after a clown donned a Barack Obama mask and stuck a broom up his backside.

The stunt took place during the bull riding competition on Saturday night.
