Sen. Ted Cruz's dad makes fiery anti-Obama speech

(CNN) – Rafael Cruz, a pastor who left Cuba as a teenager amid the nation's revolution in the 1950s, told a crowd of evangelical conservatives this weekend that President Barack Obama's policies mirror those of Cuban communist dictator Fidel Castro.

Cruz, whose son Ted serves as a U.S. senator from Texas, linked Obama and Castro through their promises to citizens, describing Castro as a "young charismatic leader who rose up talking about hope and change."

He was speaking at the Family Leader conference in Iowa, which also featured speeches from his son Ted, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and real estate mogul Donald Trump.

During his remarks, Rafael Cruz described seeing "socialism at work" during President Jimmy Carter's administration, arguing that his experience in Cuba gave him the ability to identify socialist policies at work.

"I hear people all the time say, 'This will never happen in America.' It is happening in America," Cruz said. "It is happening in America, and our rights are being eroded more and more and more every day."

During the Cuban revolution, Rafael Cruz actually sided with Castro in fighting the rightist dictator Fulgencio Batista. Ted Cruz, during his run for Senate last year, explained in an interview with the Dallas Morning News that his father "didn't know Castro was a Communist, what they knew was that Batista was a cruel and oppressive dictator."

Rafael Cruz, who left Cuba to study in Texas, later became a critic of Castro's.

During his Iowa speech, he called on pastors like himself to rally support behind conservative policies, saying it was "high time pastors stop hiding behind the pulpit."

And he argued that changes in social policy – like growing approval of same-sex marriage – were linked to a socialist agenda.

"Socialism requires that government becomes your God," he said. "That's why they have to destroy the concept of God. They have to destroy all loyalties except loyalty to the government. That's what's behind homosexual marriage. It's really more about the destruction of the traditional family than about exalting homosexuality."

Later this month, Cruz will join former Sen. Jim DeMint, the president of the conservative Heritage Foundation, on a tour to advocate defunding Obama's health care law.

Leftists and communists never, ever want you to know exactly who they are and what they represent and what their real agenda is.
Unlike Republicans who are doing their best to limit civil rights, voting rights, and are taking away women's rights using budget bills and motorcycle safety bills-with no debate. Do you even read what you are shoveling?

He's right about the fact that our rights are being eroded more and more each day.........trouble is, its the GOP that is working so hard to erode them in order to keep a grip on whatever power they still have. He has identified the problem, but fails to see who the villain really is.

Pastor? As a recovering Catholic, I'll keep my views of religion to myself. That being said, I do believe that heaven is not in the future of people who screw over the less fortunate for profit in the name of Christ.

Instead of preaching love , or even something on how his church could do good in the world, he is as all of these phony religious extremist do is tell lies! A very good reason to keep separation of church & state a priority or they would turn us in another Iran, with the religious leaders in charge. I wonder if there are any sane Republicans left in this country who care to get these nuts out and bring rational thinking back!

Wow you need daddy's help to bash the President? Worked with Castro then bailed on his country to help over throw America. Cubans only want to be here until Castro is gone then they will go running back so they do not have to spill a drop of their blood. They can suck America dry and keep their money. I think there are enough Cubans here to actually try and take their country back

No priest, rabbi or anyone affiliated with a religions institution should be allowed to weigh in on politics. TAX ALL RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS. I'm tired of these freeloaders.

Really? Obama is much as a socialist and Trump is. Obama just wants to make sure (as many other people do) that government protects the weak and the defenseless (like the environment). If there are people who have needs for things like food and no charity is there to provide, it is up to the government to protect the citizenry.

Daddy Cruz is a man who has publicly admitted that he bribed officials to get out of Cuba...but whose son now rails against immigrants who come here without "following the rules."

This explains a lot about the canadian born McCarthy/cruz.
If his father is really from Cuba he, better than anyone else, shoud know that Obama is nothing like Castro or he and his sorry excuse of a son would be in jail, or better yet, dead!
His son, on the other hand, is the one who is cruel and wants to be a oppressive dictator!!!

Obama and his administration have trampled on religious rights with much of their left wing agenda. Are the lefties in here saying that church's and their pastors have no right to speak thei mind when it comes to opposing such policies? Do you think this is the old Soviet Union or something? Maybe you all need to read thew Constitution again, and I mean the real Constitution, not some left wing interpretation of it.
