Planned Parenthood mailer hits 'extremely dangerous' Cuccinelli

Washington (CNN) - Planned Parenthood unleashed a wave of mail pieces in Virginia this week blasting Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli as “extremely dangerous for women.”

“Ken Cuccinelli would end access to safe and legal abortion, even in cases of rape or incest,” reads the mailer, provided to CNN by a Virginia voter who received it on Monday.

The two-sided mailer highlights Cuccinelli’s push as attorney general to apply strict new health regulations to Virginia abortion providers, a move critics said would force many clinics to shut their doors.

Read the mailer here and here.

The language on the mail piece - “Ken’s way out there” - dovetails with Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe’s efforts to paint Cuccinelli as an extremist on social issues and disqualify him with women voters.

The mailer, billed as “an important message” from Planned Parenthood’s political action committee, is actually paid for by the Democratic Party of Virginia in coordination with the women’s health organization.

During the 2012 presidential race, Planned Parenthood bombarded Virginia voters with mail pieces attacking Republican Mitt Romney’s position on abortion rights and contraception. President Barack Obama won the state by just over 100,000 votes.

Asked about the criticism, Cuccinelli spokeswoman Anna Nix called McAuliffe the “out-of-the-mainstream” candidate on the abortion issue, accusing the Democrat of supporting “taxpayer funded abortions, abortion up to the moment of birth and abortion for sex selection.”

If you want big money out of politics, then stop funding political organizations with taxpayer dollars like Planned Parenthood.

Corporate welfare to these places is a joke.

Could you please provide the context for the above quotes? Otherwise they're just meaningless soundbites.

Good for planned parenthood. This guy is worse than the probe governor and I truly believe he would bring back the probe for pregnant women as soon as he could.
He also has some shady dealings in his past and unlike the probe gov he can't return $154,000 of ill gotten gains. Whatever he has received he has already used, dinners and private jet flights among who knows what else he received under the table.

The people of VA can always throw these mailers out with the trash if they don't agree and vote the way they want. There are many reasons that people disagree on this subject. I fall in the middle. I believe in cases where the mother's life is indanger, rape or incest, or earlier than 20 weeks. There should be safegards in place should anything go wrong and a hospital close to take care of the woman in that event. I don't believe in late term abortions unless medical complication occure.

@carol, you obviously have money to go to YOUR fancy doctor. A lot of women who use planned parenthood use it for their annual pap smears and mammograms and regular checkups. It is NOT a joke at all. PP is NOT a political group!!!
You know what's a joke? Corporations and extremely wealthy individuals being able to give a loser like the twit and others to come after him $400M dollars to campaign with lies and half truths. That is an extremely dangerous joke.

I think Cucinnelli is great. As a woman from Northern Va I have no trouble supporting him wholeheartedly. He is not a favorite of the good old boys club in VA GOP and he's worlds above that con man the dems are running.. I love kids, maybe that's where I part ways with the progs. I' so. happy to have a ggod guy to vote for.

@Carol "stop funding political organizations with taxpayer dollars like Planned Parenthood"

    (sarcasm alert)
And let's go all the way here. No more breaks and freeloading! How about taxing all those churches that are being political and profitting and attempting to establish a religious state from the pulpit. Those political groups should pay corporate taxes like the rest.

  15. it must be said

US taxpayers are sending $524,000,000 to Planned parenthood so they can then spend money on political attack ads??? Isn't that money that should be used for mammograms, etc.??? All funding to this sham health organization should be cut off immediately. They are nothin gbut another ACORN type left wing sham designed to scam the tax payers.

This just underscores how broken the campaign finance system has gotten in this country. Planned Parenthood does a lot of good work. I don't have a problem with the organization officially endorsing a candidate. But running campaign ads? Personally I think that is wrong. But, to be fair, other outside organizations are free to buy space to promote other candidates and issues. So I understand why Planned Parenthood is doing it. Political campaigns should be about the candidates without a lot of noise from outside organizations.

    Humm,
Me think too many people want government to fund everything. That why we now have 17 Trillion Dollar Federal debt. Gunderson ask why you can't fund your own abortion. Also provide your own food stamps. Me official U.S. Taxpayer. Me out of money. You pay now.

    plain and simple:
    1. no restrictions before 20 weeks.
    2. only abortion if raped, incest, or health of mother in danger, or if fetus is defective, after 20 weeks.

after a certain in pregnancy, there are no longer one person growing tissue in her body – there are two people – and no choice for the mother to be.

This political attack ad is proof positive that all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood must be stopped and stopped now. Let their liberal supporters fund this rubbish and their abortion mills. Our tax dollars should never be goin gto one of these types of organizations, especially when we have to borrow the money to send it them.

It's sad that the GOP keeps insisting on committing political suicide. Back in the Barry Goldwater days, they were sensible people.
