Biden’s son evaluated at Houston hospital

Updated at 9:53 a.m. ET on 8/20

(CNN) - Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware and the son of Vice President Joe Biden, was evaluated on Monday at a Houston hospital after an "episode of disorientation and weakness," the vice president's office said.

Biden traveled with his son to Texas for the evaluation, his office added. According to a source, Beau Biden is also with others from his family, including second lady Jill Biden.

He is undergoing testing at MD Anderson, a world renowned cancer treatment hospital, the source told CNN, cautioning that Biden was only undergoing an evaluation.

Beau Biden tweeted Tuesday morning, thanking supporters for their well-wishes.

The incident occurred last Wednesday while Beau Biden was on vacation. He began to feel "weak and disoriented following a long drive to Indiana," the Delaware Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Initially admitted to Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, Biden traveled the next morning to the Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to speak with his doctor.

The statement said Biden was discharged and spent the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

No other information about Biden's condition was released.

In 2010, the younger Biden suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

Biden, 44, was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Under ObamaCare, Americans experiencing weakness and/or disorientation will be spirited to the top hospital of their choosing aboard Air Force 2. You are all unique and beautiful snowflakes. This provision goes into effect in 2037. The wait list is now open. The current wait time for this service is 25 years.

He's not at M.D. Anderson because he is dehydrated. Undoubtedly something seen at the other two hospitals indicates cancer. Luckily he has medical insurance. Otherwise he would die like all the other working poor in this country do when they get an expensive disease. Welfare folks get treatment. Old folks get treatment. Those of us who have really good jobs and pay for insurance get treatment. The working poor still get to die because they make too much for welfare and not enough to buy insurance. Of course, that's their fault, because the are lazy, even if they are working two jobs.

I hope and pray that Beau's condition is not cancer or any other dreadful disease. If it is, I'm sure he'll be getting the very best of medical care. May the Lord God watch over him and his family and keep them in His loving care.

National attention is what cancer research needs.Chemo and radiation are 'old school' –we need to stimulate some young minds to think o/s the box.Chemo and radiation don't cut it on the 'tough ones'.Cancer is all about "timing and location"–where its AT and WHEN you find it.We need to identify more markers and get a jump on it –it's killing too many people–espeiaclly the young. Go Auks.

@KathySebelius: you are the (snow)flake. Hopefully you will soon melt so that the diversity of real snowflakes can take your place. Why not wish the guy a speedy recovery to health?
