Biden’s son evaluated at Houston hospital

Updated at 9:53 a.m. ET on 8/20

(CNN) - Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware and the son of Vice President Joe Biden, was evaluated on Monday at a Houston hospital after an "episode of disorientation and weakness," the vice president's office said.

Biden traveled with his son to Texas for the evaluation, his office added. According to a source, Beau Biden is also with others from his family, including second lady Jill Biden.

He is undergoing testing at MD Anderson, a world renowned cancer treatment hospital, the source told CNN, cautioning that Biden was only undergoing an evaluation.

Beau Biden tweeted Tuesday morning, thanking supporters for their well-wishes.

The incident occurred last Wednesday while Beau Biden was on vacation. He began to feel "weak and disoriented following a long drive to Indiana," the Delaware Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Initially admitted to Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, Biden traveled the next morning to the Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to speak with his doctor.

The statement said Biden was discharged and spent the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

No other information about Biden's condition was released.

In 2010, the younger Biden suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

Biden, 44, was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

I hope all is well. I am sure he has good medical coverage.

The Republicans need to ensure that all Americans have access to good health care.

I wonder what he was doing in Indiana? They aren't nice to democrats in my home state here. Everybody you talk to here assumes you didn't vote for Obama.

As a republican, let me rephrase....a moderate republican, let me just say that I hope he is ok. Partisan politics aside, brain illnesses are no joke. Best wishes to his family.

As an RN, it sounds like it could have been a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) due to the long drive. Another reason to take frequent breaks and walk around every couple of hours while on the road. You can also do calf pushes while driving to help circulate your blood. Hope he's okay.

He couldn't find a local hospital?
    Who paid for all this?
Does he not have confidence in his own hospitals?

So he drives to IN, gets seen in IL, goes to PA, then to DE, and finally ends up in TX. All while having an "episode of disorientation and weakness."

    Doesn't seem quite right.

Our prayers are with you. Joe, Please don't put your career ahead of your families health. You have been thru enough loss in that area and have earned a tremendous legacy by the life you lead and the example you set.
