Biden’s son evaluated at Houston hospital

Updated at 9:53 a.m. ET on 8/20

(CNN) - Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware and the son of Vice President Joe Biden, was evaluated on Monday at a Houston hospital after an "episode of disorientation and weakness," the vice president's office said.

Biden traveled with his son to Texas for the evaluation, his office added. According to a source, Beau Biden is also with others from his family, including second lady Jill Biden.

He is undergoing testing at MD Anderson, a world renowned cancer treatment hospital, the source told CNN, cautioning that Biden was only undergoing an evaluation.

Beau Biden tweeted Tuesday morning, thanking supporters for their well-wishes.

The incident occurred last Wednesday while Beau Biden was on vacation. He began to feel "weak and disoriented following a long drive to Indiana," the Delaware Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Initially admitted to Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago, Biden traveled the next morning to the Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to speak with his doctor.

The statement said Biden was discharged and spent the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

No other information about Biden's condition was released.

In 2010, the younger Biden suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

Biden, 44, was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.

CNN's Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Why three different hospitals in three states, and how did he finally end up in Texas? Would like a bit more info here.

And this is news why? People are taken to the hospital everyday but you don't hear about it. There must not be anything else to report!

Yes; quite a hero he is; got his law degree; served in the rear with the gear with the National Guard; Prosecuted REAL soldiers who served on the front line in actual combat. Just another smiling politician living off of the taxpayers.

Sounds like exhaustion with a side of dehydration to me. Of course there's living with the fact that your dad works for,and is also part of, a highly corrupt government.

This article is so poorly written – clear as mud.
Says he was evaluated in Houston, Texas........but indicates the episode happened on Wednesday after which he was seen in Chicago and in Delaware. SO, what was the original "episode" on Wednesday?
A lot missing from this - very confusing.

II hope he does get better, really I do.
    .
However, with his father being part of the Obama administration who adamantly despises all things Texas, I find it rather funny that he wound up in Houston's Medical Center. You know - in TEXAS.

Unless you're a Biden family member or Beau Biden's healthcare surrogate, that's none of your business.

Malory Archer - The Medical Center may be able to provide him with a particular type of care that the other facilities could not perform. Remember, Ms. Gifford was also brought to the Med Center to aid with her recovery.

Symptoms sound like possibly mitochondrial disease, which could be inherited or acquired through statin use. Rather rare, but easy to test for by lactate and pyruvate levels, as well as Coenzyme Q10 levels.

I wonder if he could be suffering neurological problems related to his time in Iraq. Eventually we'll see more long term after effects due to the depleted uranium that we used in our weaponry there. Another side effect of our clueless reign of terror in that country.
