(CNN) – As Ted Cruz's profile has skyrocketed in the last year–thanks to his election to the U.S. Senate and an attention-grabbing itinerary to early presidential voting states–the Texas Republican's eligibility for president has come under question.
Born in Canada to a U.S. mother and a Cuban father, most legal experts have said Cruz qualifies as a "natural-born citizen," a requirement for the White House job, as stated in the Constitution.

And Cruz seems to agree. He told ABC News in July that he's not "going to engage in a legal debate."
"The facts are clear," he continued. "I can tell you where I was born and who my parents were. And then as a legal matter, others can worry about that. I'm not going to engage."
But he will release his birth certificate. In fact, he already has.
The Dallas Morning News ran a story late Sunday analyzing Cruz's documents, which he released to the newspaper on Friday.
Legal experts told the paper that Cruz is not only eligible for president in the United States, he's also technically a Canadian citizen and can even run for Parliament. Unless he renounces his citizenship there, he could also obtain a Canadian passport, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The senator's office, however, said Cruz has never embraced his legal rights in Canada, a country that he left when he was four.
"Senator Cruz became a U.S. citizen at birth, and he never had to go through a naturalization process after birth to become a U.S. citizen," spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told the newspaper. "To our knowledge, he never had Canadian citizenship, so there is nothing to renounce."
The recent debate has invoked the controversial "birther" movement that questioned President Barack Obama's eligibility for president. He put the issue to rest in 2011 when he released his long-form birth certificate proving he was born in Hawaii–though a small amount of conspiracists still maintain doubt about the president's place of birth.
Cruz will attend a GOP fundraiser in New Hampshire on Friday. Earlier this summer, he traveled to Iowa twice and stopped in South Carolina in May. All three states typically hold the first three contests in the presidential primary process.

Why didn't his mother come back home and deliver him in US soil if at all she wanted him to be a US citizen? I can smell something fishy in the whole issue.
He's definitely more eligible than the man in the White House right now! People are threatened – that's why this is even attempting to be an issue. Obama still hasn't released all of his credentials – I'm sure many are anti-American. Cruz is a patriot – and brilliant!
A native-born citizen is one born in the United States. Ted Cruz was not.
I seen the birth certificate. It's a forgery. He done it at Kinkos. He's a stinkin foreigner!
Quick question to the RWNJ's......
Since the only way Obama got into Harvard was affirmative action, since Cruz is of hispanic descent, is that how he got into Harvard also???
Let the hypocrisy begin!
I want to see his long form Birth Certificate. How can he be a US citizen when he was born in Canada. I want a real American to run an not a Canadian who just finds it easier to live in the US. I wonder will Trump offer him $5000 to show the real deal.
So if we listen to some of the posts here, if my wife and I, both US born to US citizens, were traveling in Europe and she went into labor early and gave birth outside the United States then our child would not be a natural-born US citizen. If that we the case then Sen. John McCain is also not a US born citizen because he was born in Panama.
Let's make this clear, if one of your parents is a US citizen, you are a US citizen. Anyone born in US soil is a US citizen and anyone whose parent is a US citizen but you are born outside the country can file for your US citizenship.
Will your civics class include the part about how American citizens born abroad – even to American parents – aren't eligible to be POTUS unless they were born on a U.S. Military installation or other U.S. government facility?

Not a true statement. A person can be born overseas to one American Parent, on any type of land, and still be eligible for president.
Of course this doesn't apply to Cruz, it only applies to our current president, who was born in a U.S. State, and still that isn't good enough for the right!. and John, you don't bury survivors..LOL
Cruz is against Obamacare because it is not universal like his homeland.
He is a natural royal subject, being Canadian born.
The correct process was not followed by the US embassy in Canada, the US embassy obviously issued the birth certificate in error.
The clear answer is that Ted Cruz is Canadian and should have been naturalized. He must understand that he is living here illegally. I expect him to follow the Tea Party recommendation for all Children brought here illegally by their parents and self deport.
This guy should quite making noise, he was born in Canada simple, he is not a natural born American. please Post copies of the Canadian birth certificate.
Do the Canadian birth certicate say he is an American or Cuban Immigrant? Said enough.
I don't care if you were born in the moon...you don't care for the poor to have medical insurance...No vote for you.
Is Donald Trump going to send his "people" to Calgary to investigate?
By this same logic, Obama would have been eligible to be President even if his American mother had given birth to him in Kenya.
Yup. What's even worse is that Cruz attended birther-oriented fund raisers in Las Vegas a month or so ago as keynote speaker.
There is no controversy, just mockery.
It didn't take Cruz three years to release his birth certificate.
Ted Cruz is what's wrong with this country.
The most dangerous person in Congress.
Mr. Trump – help us out here!!!
A small amount of people still think Obama is not an American citizen? Wonder if this writer has been on FB or any tea party website lately? The crazies out there still think it is a big deal.
If the GOP will name Ted Cruz as their candidate for president, the Republicans are really in trouble.
Why not the GOP consult their favourite Donald "Duck" Trump.
Ok, where is D. Trump? I want to hear result. Oh, let me guess, since Cruz is not black, he is more then able to be President even thou he was born in Cananada. Lets hope the left give Cruz the same treatment that was given President Obama. And lets stop sugar coating the fact that the Tea party and the RepubliKKKans are racist and KKK lover. Please enough let call it for what it is.
