(CNN) - Sen. Ted Cruz wrapped up a week in the political spotlight headlining a political fundraiser Friday in New Hampshire, home to the traditional first primary contest in the race for the White House.
The Texas Republican, who is considered a possible contender for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, was the main attraction at a reception for the New Hampshire Republican Party in Dublin, where he told a receptive crowd that changes in Washington were only possible through mobilizing grassroots activists around issues like defunding President Barack Obama’s health care law.
(CNN) - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner will resign, a city official announced Friday, an action that Filner had long resisted despite being under intense public pressure to do amid a torrent of sexual harassment claims.
City Attorney Jan Goldsmith announced around 3:45 p.m. (6:45 p.m. ET) that the City Council, during a closed-door session, had accepted the terms of an agreement with Filner that was reached after three days of mediation talks.
(CNN) - President Barack Obama may have been the headliner at the last stop on his bus tour on Friday, but it was Vice President Joe Biden who stepped on stage as the hometown star.
Speaking in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Obama noted it had been five years to the day he named Biden as his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign - a choice, he said, that marked "the best decision I ever made politically."

TSUNAMI DEVELOPING: SEN. TED CRUZ TELLS CANDY CROWLEY HE’LL ENCOURAGE A ‘TSUNAMI’ AGAINST OBAMACARE … “The House of Representatives should pass a continuing resolution that funds the federal government in its entirety, every aspect of the federal government, except ObamaCare … President Obama, Harry Reid, will scream and holler that the mean, nasty Republicans are threatening to shut down the government. And at that point, Republicans have to do something we haven't done in a long time - stand up and win the argument. …”
(CNN) - Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean on Thursday described Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and others who support threatening a government shutdown in order to defund Obamacare as "irresponsible" and "petty, radical-right people."
"We can do better this, and I think the American voters are going to throw these people out," he said on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper." "If they keep doing this, the impossible may become possible. We could take back the House in 2014."
(CNN) – President Barack Obama argued Friday that the amount of time it takes to obtain a law degree should be shortened as a way for students to save money.
"This is probably controversial to say but what the heck? I am in my second term so I can say it," the president told an audience at Binghamton University in New York. "Law schools would probably be wise to think about being two years instead of three years."

Washington (CNN) - National Democrats voted unanimously Friday to approve a resolution urging San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to resign, hours before the embattled lawmaker announced he was stepping down from his office under a crush of sexual harassment allegations.
Meeting in Arizona for its summer meeting, the Democratic National Committee addressed the resolution in an afternoon session. The resolution, a draft copy of which was obtained by CNN, called on their fellow Democrat to "face the consequences of his actions, sparing his constituents the embarrassment and expense of a recall election."
(CNN) – Sen. Ted Cruz cracked a joke about the recent stir over his place of birth on Thursday, just days after pledging to renounce his Canadian citizenship.

Washington (CNN) – Does a campaign poster 'supporting' Obamacare from his office mean that House Speaker John Boehner has changed his mind on the healthcare law?
Not really, but the Ohio Republican's staff have created a poster of faux support, mocking a Health and Human Services Department contest that calls for youth-created ads to raise awareness on the Affordable Care Act.
