Newspaper fires back after Christie unleashes on reporter

(CNN) - Chris Christie has been clear he's no fan of reporters.

But after he called one an "idiot" on Monday, one newspaper fired back.

"Who you calling an idiot, fatso!" blared the headline of the New York Daily News.

The banner was backed up by one of paper's columnists, Mike Lupica, who said Christie should "pick on someone his own size" rather than Daily News a sports writer.

"Manesh Mehta is an idiot. The guy is a complete idiot, self-consumed, underpaid, reporter," Christie said Monday while guest hosting a New York sports program on WFAN radio.

Mehta and other reporters questioned the New York Jets' decision to play quarterback Mark Sanchez in the fourth quarter of a Sunday night pre-season game, when he suffered a shoulder injury. He was put in to relieve the team's rookie quarterback, who played the first three quarters of that matchup with the New York Giants.

Christie said on the show that the conversation shouldn't be about Mehta, and rather "it should be about the Sanchez decision and we shouldn't be giving this dope the amount of airtime we've given him already."

But Christie wasn't done.

"Let's give him a nickname - what do you want, M&M?" he was asked.

Christie replied: "The Dope."

The Daily News responded, "Gov's random attack on News' Jets scribe makes HIM the 'dope.'"

The collumnist suggested that maybe Christie was siding with the Jets coach over the reporter because "they both have undergone lap-band surgery the past couple of years, maybe it's some kind of Lap-Band of Brothers deal."

We already have enough republicans with anger issues (McCain, McConnell, Limbaugh, Cruz, Issa, etc.) we don't need any more.

Actually, I think Christie is sucking up to major Republican donor, NY Jets owner, Woody Johnson.

In other news, Christie is demonstrating why he's not fit for public office. He'd make a bad traffic cop, but he'd make a great loud mouth guy in your bowling league. He'd make a poor fireman, but he'd be great at wearing the firemans' hardhat at Jets home games. He'd make a poor school teacher, but he'd make a great pizza shop owner. Christie, all the news that's unfit fo print.

Coaching takes more time and effort then you may think. Joe Gibbs has a book about what goes into coaching. As I read this, I believe we have less and less tolerance and understanding for others. It really is sad.

Chris Christie needs to realize that the Daily News isn't Rupert Mourdoch's right wing propaganda paper the New York Post.

Now THAT'S what I call good old-fashioned politics! Next up: ranking out each other's mothers. Maybe a wrestling match on pay-per-view. Why not? - ties in with the sports angle.

USA: a nation of great journalists and statesmen.

How is a squabble between a rino and a reporter news?
    No one cares.

Let's get a good brawl going between the media, and the backers of various candidates. It's nonproductive, serves no purpose at all except to sell printed media to the masses. Those ever easily led masses, who's eyes are redirected as much as possible by red herring stories, so they can not get a real good bead on any one subject and make a sound rational judgment on any one issue. Make sure you sprinkle a little Miley, or Kim, or Lindsey to further distract from the real meat and potato's issues that really need attention. Keep em guessing, and keep em subservient. That's the modern way to do it. Makes being in a position of power that much easier.

It's a good thing the Post called him that. I'm sure Christie was unaware of his weight.

I'm not a republican but I do think it is unnecessary to call someone names based on physical appearance. And besides, he IS trying to do something about his weight. He's undergone major surgery to try to work on it. Let's give him some credit for that. He knows he has a problem and is taking steps.

Mike Lupica should shut his quote Jason Whitlock, Mike Lupica is "an insecure, mean-spirited busybody". Nobody wants to listen to his irrelevant opinions.

Chris Christie is overweight, but you know what? So is half of America.

  22. must think on this....

I am a moderate/liberal on most issues by nature, but not affiliated nor blindly following any one party's ideological brainwashing. I like Christie, he tells it like it is, doesn't tell you what you want to hear just to get your vote and do the opposite. If it comes down to Hillary or Christie, it will be a hard decision.

And this laies and gentlemen is why this rethug will NEVER be president.
This is not the first time he has bodily confronted or verbally attacked someone who didn't agree with him or asks him a auestion he doesnt want to answer.
Talk about being a self consumed person. This guy should look in the supersized mirror in his home. Then again maybe not.

So Christie acts like a juvenile and a publication responds even more in kind. It's like a playground name-calling contest. For the record though, I'd rather be fat than an idiot. One of those conditions can be fixed.
