McCain to Russia: Bring back the Super Bowl ring

(CNN) - When a Russian delegation comes to Washington to talk about Syria, Sen. John McCain hopes they bring back New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft's super bowl ring.

"I was thinking this morning the worst thing you could do in the Old West was to steal another man's horse. I would think in New England the worst thing you can do is steal another man's Super Bowl ring," the Arizona Republican joked Tuesday on CNN's "New Day."

Russian President Vladimir Putin tried on the ring when Kraft met with him during a visit to St. Petersburg in 2005. Kraft said at an event this summer that Putin put it in his pocket and kept it, and that he wants to see it returned, according to the New York Post.

The Patriots' owner said in 2005 he received a call from the White House telling him it would be in the best interest of U.S.-Russian relations to claim it was a gift to Putin, the Post reported. Kraft said in June that he played along. A few days after the 2005 incident, amid confusion as to whether the ring was a present or was kept by mistake, Kraft issued a statement saying it was a gift.

That's the way Putin sees it, too, the president's spokesman said in June.

"What Mr. Kraft is saying now is weird," Dmitry Peskov said. "I was standing 20 centimeters away from him and Mr. Putin and saw and heard how Mr. Kraft gave this ring as a gift."

Russia, which has major trade deals with Syria, is sending a delegation to Washington for "dialogue" with members of Congress, the Kremlin said Monday.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama leaves Tuesday night for the G20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Obama is scheduled to meet with Putin during the summit, which runs Thursday and Friday

I would feel better about this whole deal if Russia didnt have a military base in the middle of Syria.

McCain's lost it. The MSM, of course, will parade the old fool around like the Libyans paraded around Gaddafi, but that's a separate, albeit more serious, problem.

Well, if the criticism leveled under the Bush administration that during his tenure, "nobody liked us" is true, it looks like we've gone the wrong way. We're ticking everyone off now!

McCain surely knows whats worth fighting for in this world doesn't he? Millions are starving and living in deplorable conditions in the U.S., but he's concerned over a stupid Super Bowl ring. Kraft can surely use some of the billions of dollars that he has lying around to go out and buy another ring.

Maybe I'm just naive, having never owned a Super Bowl ring, but if I had something that valuable, I wouldn't be letting anybody else try it on for size, no matter who they were.

Putin's a thief. There's no other way to put it. No one but no one gives their prized PERSONALIZED engraved super bowl ring to ANYONE, and he knows this
I'm not a big fan of McCain but sometimes he comes through. We should embarrass Putin about his classless act until he returns it to its rightful owner.

And this is why American fails. Remember when we used to love people and use objects? Now we love objects and use people. Kraft can have another ring made if it's that important to him. It doesn't take away the win. We shake our heads when kids kill each other over shoes and wonder where they learned it from. They learned it from watching us.

I hope this old clown doesn't try to vote for a war with Russia over this, he hasn't missed one opportunity to threaten every other country in the world when he becomes vexed about something.

No No Mr. McCain! Don't say that. Re-call those words you just said. That way once you slaughter innocent Syrians with your war mongering can use the ring as a reason to attack Russia i

The Russians coming to make their case to Congress is a good thing.
They should be treated well, with respect.

After all, Al Queda could have done a suicide mission, their INTEL may show something.
Chemical bombs, explosive bombs, what is the difference?
either way, martyrs going to heaven for killing children.

The Russians should also offer to pick up one million Syrian refugees.
Turkey should provide safe passage to the Black Sea, Russian Navy picks them up.
Talk big, now deliver; Syria is their vassal state, their baby, they own it, their regime change.

McCain, will say & do anything to start a conflict. Hell, he may ask Obama & his buddies in congress to declare War on Russia. This is dangerous because Obama goes out his way to appease McCain and Sarah Palin. I wonder what favors she wants from Obama, probably too scared to ask because 1st Lady Michelle would beat her to a pulp

I read about this story before. He gave the ring to Putin, who then departed. Putin did not steal that ring. I am definitely no fan of Putin's but seriously...I've read this story before. It's time for this former owner of the ring to stop trying to steal limelight but causing problems. I personally can't believe McCain is taking this story at all seriously.
