Biden wants Napolitano on Supreme Court

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden made it clear Friday how he feels about departing Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

"I think Janet Napolitano should be on the Supreme Court of the United States," he said Friday morning at her going away ceremony.

His statement was met with raucous applause by those attending, including current and former cabinet secretaries, law enforcement officials, and Attorney General Eric Holder.

Napolitano announced in June she would leave her current position this month. She's now preparing to start her next gig as president of the University of California system.

As President Barack Obama was choosing Supreme Court nominees in 2009 and 2010, Napolitano's name was floated as a potential contender to replace retiring Justice David Souter and Justice John Paul Stevens. He ultimately tapped Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, respectively, for the nominations.

Napolitano, 55, has a law degree but has never been a judge. A former Democratic governor of Arizona, Napolitano was also a onetime U.S. attorney and state attorney general.

While in private practice, she was a lawyer for Anita Hill when she testified in the 1991 Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings for the high court.

During her tenure as homeland security secretary, she was criticized strongly for her department's initial response - and her public statements - to the Christmas 2009 attempted terror bombing of a Detroit-bound airliner.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 80, is the current court member most frequently mentioned as the next to step down, but she has voiced her intention to stay on as long as possible.

I have to think that this was only an effort at flattery. Even one as painfully stupid and inept as Joe Biden cannot seriously think Big Sis is qualified for SCOTUS or would ever make it through confirmation.

Why not,... That position has turned into a prize for towing the progressive line,...or...

Hey, Joey, you got the wrong Napolitano. Andrew Napolitano would be great. Janet is better suited to work in an authoritarian government like obama's.

She has about as much business being a supreme court justice as she does a nutritional advisor at McDonalds.

OMG. That's the LAST thing we need. Between John Roberts AND Napolitano on the Supreme Court, we won't have a CHANCE in HELL.

I didn't know that being the head of Homeland Security qualifies one to be a Supreme Court Justice. It does however, follow Obama's method of putting ideologues in prominent positions rather than appointing qualified people.

Janet Napolitano to U.S. Supreme Court ...
.... this is consistent with a political environment that has given us (I) Barack Obama "leading from behind"; (ii) Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi leadership positions (would you hire them to run your lemonade stand?); (iii) Dodd-Frank Financial Services reform from the financial 'architects of destruction' (Frank to GWBush "fannie/Freddie fundamentally sound" | Chris Dodd a friend of Angelo Mozilo Countrywide Mortgage; etc ...

George Orwell wouldn't believe how bizarre this has become. Until the low information voters smarten-up, we will have a political class that is uninformed, crass and destructive.

    The Real Tom Paine

So, a person who could not get elected to a full term is making the rounds to Iowa? Does this tell you something about how thin the GOP bench is? What tough votes did he make? What legislation did he help to write? What has he done to make himself into a viable candidate?
He's very moderate Republican. He cosponsored legislation with Kristen Gillebrand to prevent insider trading by members of congress. He was a staunch defender of veterans. He actually did quite a bit in his brief stint.

Thin bench? Take Hillary Clinton out of the equation and how thin is the dems bench?
Clearly the people of MA saw it differently, considering how badly he was beaten. One piece of legislation is hardly going to make you a household name, and supporting veterans is a no-brainer. With regards to your comment regarding the thin bench, your thoughtst speaks volumes about how much the Right fears Hillary, and the obcession the Right has with taking her down. Even with her out, people will take Andrew Cuomo or Governor O"malley over a Scott Walker or Rick Perry any day. Perry has already been exposed as an intellectual paper tiger, and Scott Walker is presiding over one of the weakest state economies in the country, an economy that he is personally responsible for putting in the crapper. If the best the GOP can offer is a man who co-sponsored one bill to prevent insider trading and supported vets while being a seat warmer, then the GOP needs to wait until 2024.

so it is the democrats and joe bidens intent to stack the supreme court with leftist political hacks with no judicial experience. kagan was an obama political hack as well. wake up america. could it get more obvious just what the leftists in this country intend to do to you and this country??? if you thought forcing you to buy a private product was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet! We are very very close to being leftist government slaves. one or two more people like napolitano on the ussc would seal the deal.

Is Biden Crazy. That woman single handily destroyed our freedoms and also is continuing to destroy America. I voted for Obama and I got to say that was the worst decision I ever made. Did you know in China you can by beer all night and at any time. You can also drink on the street. Why is it that China seems to becoming more free and us in the US less. Sounds like Obama democrats and republicans are in it to make us all slaves.
You must live in a typical, conservative run, red state. They're good for having Prohibition-era liquor laws on the books.
