Scott Brown heading to Scott County, Iowa

(CNN) – Former Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts is heading back to Iowa this fall, adding to his calendar another stop to the important voting state for the GOP presidential nomination.

The Scott County Republican Party announced Thursday that Brown will be the featured speaker for its 2013 Ronald Reagan Dinner on November 12.

Amid tensions, Obama to meet with Russian gay rights advocates

(CNN) - President Barack Obama is set to meet with Russian civil society leaders Friday, an event likely to touch on the sensitive subject of gay rights in the nation amid tensions over Syria.

Earlier this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law passed by parliament that bans the public discussion of gay rights and relationships where children might hear it. Violators can be fined and, if they are foreigners, deported.

August jobs report: Hiring continues as unemployment falls

Washington (CNNMoney) – Hiring continued at a slow pace in August, and the unemployment rate fell as more Americans dropped out of the labor force.

The U.S. economy added 169,000 jobs in August, the Department of Labor said Friday.
