McCain raises impeachment - if boots hit ground in Syria

WASHINGTON (CNN) - After endorsing President Barack Obama's plan to launch military strikes against Syria, Sen. John McCain warned the president would face impeachment if he were to put "boots on the ground."

McCain told Phoenix radio host Mike Broomhead on Thursday that the president had "bungled" the entire handling of the Syria crisis and would open himself up to impeachment hearings if he overstepped the limits of the authorization before Congress.

"No one wants American boots on the ground," McCain told the KYFI audience. "Nor will there be American boots on the ground, because there would be an impeachment of the president if they did that."

While McCain said he still supports the current plan to intervene in Syria, the Arizona Republican's statement seems to reflect his contentious Thursday town hall meeting with some Phoenix constituents. At the meeting, McCain, who has favored a more robust American response to the Syria crisis, faced intense criticism.

"We didn't send you to make war for us. We sent you to stop the war," one man said.

Despite his warning to the president, McCain spoke out in favor of the Syria authorization again Saturday, endorsing former Army Gen. David Petraeus' endorsement of the administration's plan in a tweet.

Only one of three Republicans in the Senate Foreign Relations panel to approve the measure, McCain has vocally advocated for a stepped-up American response to alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government. He even refused to pass the White House resolution out of committee until it included provisions to bolster Syrian opposition forces deemed moderate.

McCain's support for action hasn't stopped the Arizonan from blasting his former 2008 presidential rival for inaction.

In an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Tuesday, McCain told Wolf Blitzer the president needed to "explain to the American people" why urgent action in Syria is necessary. The Republican senator also said President Obama made a mistake by consulting Congress instead of immediately launching a bombing campaign against the Syrian government.

"It's common sense you don't warn them and give them plenty of time to disperse," McCain said.

I guess it was only a matter of time before McCain started throwing bones to the right-wing crazies. I guess his latest town hall fiasco pushed him over the edge.

Talk about a 180 degree shift in less than a week? I don't advocate boots on the ground either, but this is a very wishy washy turn of "belief".

McCain is old and tired. He is out of touch with his constituency and thought he would look magnanimous to independents if he sided with the president. Then he went home and received a nasty reception from the voting base. Now he needs to back pedal and retrench just like Obama. While one needs to respect McCain's service record, as a military history buff I have talked with lot of heroes and I can tell you, you will never know their story unless you ask them directly. McCain seems to bring it up every time he speaks. This man serves neither Democrat or Republican or Voter.... just McCain. I think he should promise us to retire if boots hit the ground as well as impeach Obama.

McCain threatens impeachment if Obama puts boots on the ground, but in the same interview says Obama should have committed an impeachable crime by bombing Syria without Congressional approval. McCain has lost his mind.

McCain is a war monger and a mad man. I regret ever supporting him. Bush and Obama have become virtually the same person. To heck with all of them. The American people will not stand by while they try to light the world on fire

What the left conveniently keeps forgetting is Bush went into Iraq with permission from congress. Obama thinks he has carte blanche to do anything he damn well wants because ... well, because he's Obama.

Wait so the guy who has been pushing us so hard to arm the rebels and who was so active in supporting the Iraq war want's to Impeach Obama because he is not rushing into what is a very complicated situation? I like McCain but to say this not only disgraces himself, but his office, and Congress. It also embarrasses this country in the eyes of the world right on the even of a crucial G-20 summit, if McCain doesn't apologize on his hands an knees then maybe the best solution would be for him to retire.

Why can't people do something with McCain and his diarrhea mouth? This man is seriously sick in the head. He has been watching Dr. Strange love and Fail-Safe too many times. Does he honestly believe in what he thinks and says? Imagine him as President? Everybody would be building bomb shelters.

It was a must to get approval from Congress since the nation has mostly become against helping stop this type of war where anyone of any age that is in rebel territory is targeted and killed, mind control is enemy, and most citizens cannot see the real enemy,or duty.I would not even call it a civil war, because there is nothing civil about it.Moral lines have been broken worldwide, and no one wants to admit fault, but lets be honest,we as society become outraged when some criminal kills 10 children,or even 1 in our country, but it passes many peoples thoughts in this unique war where over 33.000 children have been killed on the order of 1 man. That is not collateral damage. That is grand scale mass child murder, if not genocide or both. When it`s added that many of those children were.and still are kidnapped and tortured to death simply because they are relatives of fighters and defector`s,society as a whole still not at it`s most outrage,it secures worldwide moral breakdown.

In a war were one side kills, kidnaps, tortures children & adults alike and the other often times just as brutal to opposing soldiers, mind control in play,it becomes a unique complex war where both sides would have to be fought on many levels to weed out the true evil ,so the end victor will exist a real moral lasting leadership.Even then during the total process a way of thinking would have to be fought, as hard as reversing brainwash.About the only real way is to get to the children first, educated in separated groups throughout the country before the process continues, or if not when the war ends eventually you will just have the same problem with a still unseen war..It`s going to take genius for the ultimate best outcome in this type war,and anywhere a way of thinking is the actual enemy, else it spreads and consumes all when it outnumbers and overcomes to any who ignore it long enough over time, eventually worldwide. It is why it must be dealt with when spotted. It is enemy of all nations on Earth.Groups such as Al Qaeda totally depend on it.They in leadership know if you can control the minds of enough of the worlds people you can control any place, even the world eventually. It`s invisible, starts small, and spreads until it consumes all. They started with children to start the process, and is why starting with children to reverse it will control it to stop it.The more children they get to first the stronger they become, and the religion they use demands many children be produced, and is why they use it..Any place a way of thinking is the root problem solution is education. It`s no surprise Al Qaeda moved into the Syrian conflict, and count on mind control, first coming disguised as saviors. If not stopped they will move into any and all places. The war in Syria has many fronts.Everyone becomes a soldier not affected so far,as it is the duty of the living to always prepare a place better than the dead who started this has put us in this position, those living continuing it,and us in duty to honor and join in the fight of the honored dead who ever fought against it.It`s a war that will take generations and total dedication to win.Else we unknowingly,or by desertion become now, and all future mankind's enemy ,devouring & destroying in any ways, all ages. All Government leadership must make their children to always understand this complex enemy, and all must forever stay together to fight it ,else it ,and any unmoral ways unchecked will grow like a cancer and consume all.We were born into an invisible war with duty silently screaming at us & generations to come..I close with a Salute ~

You would think after McCain told the American public the economy was strong a week before it tanked that people would realize this guys not to bright and needs to step away from the microphone and retire!
The intelligence is once again questionable on Syria, we've been down this road before, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result!! stay out of other people's domestic disputes unless you have all the major players on the same team!!! That way you can be confident your gonna win! Russia has said it will send arms to Assad if we strike , so what then? Think about it, who knows where it will end up....look at what we got for Iraq, $4.00 gas prices, trillion in debt, 5 thousand dead young men and women, and half mil dead Iraqis and we are hated world wide.

If you have ever had to take care of a Senior Parent then you understand whats happening with McCain. The Man has served the country like few ever have and ever will. A True American Hero. No question. Your Parents raise you, teach you wrong from right and provide the true north to your morale compass. But sadly and cruelly, time creeps in and patiently takes it toll and eventually robs us all of clarity, health and life (unless your James Dean) Thank you for your service Senator McCain enjoy the ranch.
