CNN Poll: Part of Syria strike opposition is the messenger's fault

Washington (CNN) - A new national poll suggests that as President Barack Obama prepares to try to convince a skeptical American public why the U.S. should take military action against Syria, he's partly to blame for the box he's put himself into.

The CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday indicates that Americans are divided evenly on whether Obama is a strong leader as well as whether he's honest and trustworthy.

"One concern is the messenger himself," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "The public's split right down the middle on whether Obama is a strong leader, whether he is honest and trustworthy, and whether he inspires confidence."

Five years of constant permission by republicans have put them in an unnatural position . . . Traditional warmongers either have to back Obama or forever give up on their hawkish intervention ist ways as their default position. Their credibility is on the line. Obama could have handled this better 1) get a legal justification for action 2) make Russia go on the record at the UN in support of Syria 3) present the evidence AND EMBARASS the Russians 4) call Congress back to session immediately 5) make the moral case against chem weapons and Demand that Congress man up 6) go to that G20 and convince Putin to tell his puppet to give up the weapons to the international community 7) issue a Short term ultimatum to Syria that gets those weapons on ships and out of the hands of Syria Hezzbollah and am Queda. A PERFECT WIN FOR America.

Obama is doing just fine. I do NOT give darn hoot to Syria. It is a civil war–none of our business. How about Darfur, Sudan in 90s. We did nothing. Why fussing in this? Black president. Obama is doing just fabulous. CNN need not be fox idiocy. Publish, ok.

Did they ask the same questions about the Republican Congressional leaders? To do so would only be fair.

The potential "breakthrough" of Syria turning over it's chem weapons to international control is a most welcome turn of events. I do hope it comes to fruition. Call me selfish, but just before Mother's Day 2012, my son came home after tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and is finished with active duty, but he's still on active reserves. I'm so very proud of him, but I've had enough sleepless nights.

What a wacky world we live in. I never thought I'd see the day where the Russian President might come out looking more the statesman than the American President. And make no mistake – that's how it's going to look in the eyes of the world.

    Whatever it takes, I suppose.

In the eyes of Rethug world you mean.
Should Syria decide to hand over their chemical weapons the President is going to come out on top of this situation.
He waited and assessed while applying pressure on Russia to step up and handle their stepchild, Syria, which they should've been doing in the first place as opposed to trying to pull a Pontius Pilate on us, them, and the world.
Russia has recapitulated since the G-20 meeting.
Somebody has made them see the light, but we don't expect you or any of the other usual suspects to give this administration nor its' cabinet their rightful due.
    Spin again.

On another note I would be ecstatic to not have the possibility of your son or anyody else's return to active duty anytime in the foreseable future.

Your bias against Pres. Obama has caused you to overlook the fact that the original idea for Assad to surrender his chemical weapons came from the Obama administration. SoS Kerry proposed this publicly last week while Pres. Obama was in Kiev.

    @ DM4O and Rudy –

I've been behind the President on this situation. Because he was right and followed the law. And I truly, truly hope it works out without 1 single American asset having to be used. But to credit him and his administration for THIS potential solution would be the height of blind partisanship.

I wonder what President Obama said to Putt-Putt during that little meeting that Putt-Putt begged for right berfore the G-20?
I have every reason to think, based on how Syria seriously considering handing in their chemical weapons, and Russia' complete about-face that the President put his diplomatic skills to work abroad while Kerry planted the seed at home.
Anybody else remember the "little meeting" that the President had with the CEO's of BP after the oil spill in the Gulf...?
We're praying that you continue to be divinely guided Mr. President to take the appropriate steps in this situation.
And that you continue to block out the "advice" of those that would see you tumble and fall taking our country with you.
    In Jesus' name.

So you would rather credit who, Putt-Putt for this potential solution even though Kerry touted it here domestically?
    Really?
Speaking of the height of blind partisanship Fair, physician heal thyself.
